Caught a pretty nice one yesterady on lewisville...Anyone know why the bigger fish i catch in the winter have black "splotches" on them? Wonder if it has anything to do with the "fall/winter" transition? The last one I caught 2 years ago...

I think it is pollutants in the water. I always caught fish with black spots on them in the winter from Ray Hubbard. I never see the spots on fish I catch at Athens. I've caught at least 100 bass from there in the last 5 or 6 weeks, and none had the black spots on them.

I've caught several fish as well with black spots in both Texas and Louisiana, heard it was a sign of a healthy fishery, but not too sure.

I have caught them with the spots out of pristine small lakes in East Texas. I tend to agree with a healthy fishery. Good looking fish..

A bunch of the bass in Lonestar have those splotches and a steel mill sits on the edge of the lake. I always thought it was pollutants.

Fish's look fine to me, just have a random skin spot. Obviously eating well...

I dont think its from pollutants, cause if the water was that bad fish would die. I also don't think it's a sign of a healthy fishery cause then you'd see it more often. It's not like fish and game try to manage lakes so bass get weird black spots. Maybe certain fish are different and just have it in their DNA. Like how my face gets red when I drink.

Some crappie have "racing stripes" too.

I've caught fish like that everywhere. local ponds, East TX lakes, especially fork....idk what it is but sometimes it makes them look really pretty, plus its like a name tag, my brother caught the same 9# bass twice in one year and it had a birth mark on its head so we knew it was the same fish.
