There is a very active application before the Texas Railroad Commission to build an injection well along with all its associated storage and handling facilities within 320 yards of the lake. There will be a hearing in Austin in the next few days. These permits are usually approved or disapproved in very short order. They are usually approved because of the short cycle from notification to approval.

We local residents where totally surprised by this a couple days ago and are trying to get our feet under us so that we can get this crazy idea stopped. Would you believe they waited until the holidays to try and sneak this in. Sure you do.

Plug these coordinates in Google Earth, N31 27 39.80 W93 45 27.66, and you can see that the proposed site is surrounded on three sides by the lake all within less than a half mile.

Please do whatever you can to draw attention to this matter. The clock is ticking fast.

What are you freaking out about?Its just an injection well its not like it is going to be pumped into the lake.

What is the purpose of the injection well? Fracking or something else?

I have no issue with injection wells cborden. The issue is the close proximity to the lake and all the possibilities of spillage from trucks and onsite storage.

are you worried about the water usage or some kind of contamination? i am assuming this is a fracking deal.

you are going to get reamed on this site. aparrently the outdoorsmen on here like to bath in the chemical water that is injected into these wells.

Bobby todays oil and gas operations are not like there were 40 years ago in west Texas where they just let water and oil run onto the ground and not clean it up..Todays sights have a backup for a backup safety system to keep spills from occuring.I could write a 10 page report on the safety that goes into keeping this water out of the lakes and off the ground but some people just won't believe it.If there is a specific concern I will be more than happy to try and help.

According to the state,Toledo Bend is already contaminated from industrial runoff.

I do this for a living,trust me it is totally safe.we fraced 5 wells 10 feet from lake cherokee and had no problems what so ever

Let me say again. This is not about fracking, its about an injection well and all the transport and storage that goes with it. I have no objection to injection wells. I think they are a good proven way to take care of oil field waste.

The issue is about the proximity to the lake (320yards at the closest point). Given enough time, spills will happen. When it does, the waste will be in the lake before any emergency respoonse can be manned to mitigate it.

Secondly Louisiana does not allow injection wells. The waste trucks cross the Sabine river day and night from the gas wells in northwest Louisiana.

You will have more everyday waste from the houses and septic systems around there in the lake than an injection well...Are y'all protesting septic systems and other contaminants?

I think there are about 40-50 wells and other oil/gas installations all around Bridgeport (some within 20 feet of the water, one ON the water (island), I can't say they worry me the least. Our water is up there with the cleanest in the state.

I'm with J.R., I am more concerned about "grey" water and septic runoff....

Deep injection wells save the aquifers and lakes. Due to so many regulations and there is virtually no chance of a spill. This is not the 1960's and 70's. Our generation has done more to clean up and protect our resources than any other in history. The problem is many people like the Op here are uneducated about the facts. They want to have the oil and gas to live comfortable but also want to inhibit the process of harvesting it. It's funny I have heard many people raise issues about this but if it was their land I would bet they would not turn down the $ to lease the old well site for injection.
And no I do not work in the oil and gas industry and have nothing to gain finacially. I just try to stay informed and be a realist.

This may be good are it may be bad.The problem is we have been lied to an told half truths from Corporate Giants,Lobbyist,and public officals till we really cant believe anything they say.Being informed is what we really need,but be careful about who is doing the informing.
