Took wife and son crappie fishing at Lake Fork today. The crappie fishing was okay but son eneded up with a 13.51 Sharelunker.

BIG congrats to your son! I know you were one proud "Pappa", lol... That proves once again that when fishing Fork in the winter...you may find more than "slabs" when the "hawgs" get hungry. The state record black bass was caught by Barry St. Clair who was crappie fishing with a minnow in about 40 foot of water when lightning struck....

But the important question.... did you catch any crappie?

Years ago I was standing at the edge of a small lake that gets fresh water only when the Red River gets high. I had a jig tied on and was just dipping it in the water about three inches from the bank. A 7-8 pound black bass that was on its nest exploded on that jig and scared the living daylights out of me. I did land the fish but I was not expecting a bite, much less a fish that big, that closed to the bank.

Keep crappie fishing a good things will come.
