I know a bunch of you guys have a fat stack of BPS gift cards waiting to get used on a reel here soon. I got my second bass pro brand reel the other day and I'm here to say I have been thoroughly impressed with both of them. One is a BPS carbonlite and the other is a Johnny Morris carbon black. If you want to save a bunch of money and get a good quality reel, don't overlook these just because they're the store brand. Time will tell if they hold up, but they are as smooth and tough as any reel I've used. Just a friendly tip!

I've had a carbon black on a square bill rig for about a year now without an issue. I haven't hauled any toads in on it but it's caught a couple over 5 and a boat load of 2-3 lb'ers and never once had a hiccup. You have to take all but 2 of the centrifugal brakes off to get good distance with it but still a good reel.

I have a JM and some Pro Qualifiers and they are all great reels and have held up for over 4 years now.

I got two of the JM reels, one is the carbon black. Been using them for at least a year and a half, never cleaned them or anything. Still holding up well. Think maybe it's time to send them in finally, get them cleaned and re-lubed. Great reels none the less.

The "Johnny Morris" baitcasters are ever bit as well constructed as any of the Revos (because they're made in the same factory).

Got a carbon black and a pro qualifier for Christmas and agree with all of the above. The carbon black throws a ton, is smooth, and can handle the pigs without issue. If I were in need of another I would save the $$$ and pick up another pro qualifier during the Spring Classic. I think they go on sale for $79.00. Unbeatable deal at that price. Both have replaced a revo sx as my go to reels. Time will tell how they hold up but so far I very impressed with the quality for the money.

I've had two Johnny Morris for quite a number of years and they're still going strong.

I keep old Pflueger parts because they fit the Revo's and BPS models perfectly!

Auburn,

HOw big a boy are you. The Revo says 24#. You should know being a Coastie that for something to pull 24# of drag you had better be strapped in to a fighting chair.

Those reels may show that kind of drag but the guts won't hold it as evidenced by all the snapped Clutch Cams that I get on those reels. I NEVER have that problem with ANY Shimano even when salt abused, Nor any Quantum nor any Diawa or Okuma.

I have three pro qualifiers that are good reels for the money. I also have a carbonlight that I've only used once so far but I really like it.

Javelinman. Are you an LSU Fan? You should get at least 50.

6'5 288lb. ding ding ding. I figured that was probably the case and I may have even read that(non messageboard) sometime ago. Reason I say non messageboard is because often times some people will read messageboard info as factual and never research and spread from board to board, as in the case of Shimano G models v.s. E.

Thanks for posting. I like getting factual info from someone that sees the guts of these reels daily. War Eagle!!!!!

P.S. So I guess the 24lb revo s drag may be overmatched with say a 20lb King LOL.
