I tried once and I could never get enough weight attached to it to sink it. There a lot of small air pockets inside of a bail of hay.

i broke up the bale and filled 100# feed sacks with it and rocks. they sunk fine, but i couldn't tell the difference between the piles i used the hay and those i didn't.

Regular hay will work to. It will attract all kinds of fish. Just have to weigh it down. I'd break it down in smaller bundles and put in several places that way if one doesn't work try another one.

We used to do that back when we were kids, we had to soak them for about a month before the cinder block would take them down. Used a t-post to break some holes and help get the air out.

Grandfather did this in all his brush tops. That was back in the 70's.

I tried it on Rayburn and the cats and goo ate us up. It ruined those spots for crappie for an entire summer.

Never again....Willows and Sweetgum only now.

Thanks for all the remarks, don't think I'll be trying it out.

I don't like what souring grass does to the water
