Greetings. So glad I found this site! I could use some tips. I live in west Fort Worth and take my son bank fishing on the Trinity River. During spring we got some whites/hybrids. Late Spring, summer, and fall we got Green Sunfish, Bluegill, spotted bass, and the occasional largemouth (don't worry, we know not to eat the fish from the Trinity!).

But now it's pretty cold out. Any tips on what to fish for and how to fish for them? We don't have the luxury of traveling very far, so the Trinity river by the military base is where I take him to fish. The TPWD doesn't discuss fishing the Trinity, so I could use all the help I can get trying to put my 11-year-old on some winter fish!!!!! Do you know if there are walleye or anything like that in the Trinity?

Definitely no walleye anywhere in the Trinity. The water doesnt stay cold enough for them to survive. They would have to stock them every winter. As for tips on fishing the Trinity in the winter the best I can tell you is to slow down your presentations. Soft plastics should still work, other options would be jigs or suspending jerk baits. i fish the Trinity alot as well just not during the winter so its hard for me to say what works and what doesnt lol

if you are wanting to go for catfish. look for sharp bends in the river and fish those. the water is usually deeper there and thats where the big cats like to stay in river systems.

So we definitely have some bends and deep holes. I'd say I'm pretty savvy at catfishing in the warmer seasons . . . but I've never done cold weather catfishing. Is it much different? What baits would you use? In the summer, I'm all about worms or cut baits.

Cut bait prevails in the winter as well, fresh cut shad are never a bad choice.
