I tried to change out the bearings on my trailer. I got a bearing set from Academy that matched the size on my axle. (1 1/16 X 1 3/8). When I tried to get the inside raceway in it did not seem close to wanting to go. I measured old an new with dial calipers and found the new one was .030 larger OD than the original. All the other diminsions seemed to match, ID on both bearing and OD on outside raceway. No way I was going to be able to pound an extra .030 into that hub. This seems odd that it would off by just that much.

I wound up taking the bearings back to Academy and getting complete hubs. They fit perfectly. Wish I had started with that. $13 vs $40 is not that big a deal for all the extra work changing the bearings is.

Has anyone else had this experience. I guess different manufacturers make the raceway OD anything they want.

My '86 Ranger trailer did that to me, smaller outter than inner. Just took 1 of each to shop and matched them up... Maybe new hubs would have been easier - took me an entire day. Thank goodness I don't have to mess with that one anymore.
