I drop christmas trees just about every yr. Anchor em with cinder blocks, they sink and settle into a muddy lake bottom and hold the trees securely. Lot of crappie in my trees from last yr and yr before. They work

I dropped 6 in a pile at about 16'....our lake is 5' low though....I probably should have went shallower...

I've read it's good to thin out the branches a little bit. I'm gonna sink some pretty quick and plan on doing this. I set mine in 5 gal buckets with concrete.

its a little work but when i used to sink trees i would trim off the branches towards the bottom and run the base of the tree thru two of the blocks and then take a piece of slat wood and nail it to the bottom of the tree so the blocks couldnt slide off.

If you sink them in the correct spots....people have caught fish off them same day...depends on your lake, depth, contour, and thermoclines....
