If it doesn't matter how you deadstick then why is it called "deadsticking"?? Wouldn't it be just called "fishing"?? If you are ripping the slab then you are "ripping it". If you are jigging the slab then you are "jigging it". If you are doing the Daisy Fuentes then you "Daisy Fuentes it". grin

I am not trying to be a smart A$$ here but there is a reason that someone decide to call it deadsticking.

Can you adjust the sensitivity of your fishfinder so that you can see your lure? This is a simple way of telling whether or not your lure is really right on the fish, as sometimes going by feel just doesn't work so well.

Have had trips with Pop where I'd tell him to get the jig smack on the bottom & then jig it just a few inches up. I'd watch the fishfinder & see his lure go about 8 feet up in a hurry.

30'-35' of water. Dead assassins dipped in chartruesse Spike It on 3/4-1 oz bullet or round jig heads. Start with 3 cranks from the bottom and raise and lower (very slow) as the marks appear on the graph. Bite is very subtle and make sure you keep the line as vertical as possible. Just think deep water crappie fishing and you're there. Good luck!

I can usually see my lure on my front graph, so what I do is send it straight to the bottom and count the number of full turns of the handle up until I am about the depth I mark fish. Then I tell everyone on the boat to come up that far off the bottom. It wont have to be perfect, but that usually gets everyone in the ballpark.

I agree with lake guide, Bombay, Ruben, but
My favorite was El Nitro's grenades!!!

It's truly a feel to feel trip. Meaning adjusting every time you're out.
I've caught them just holding my rod dead still, while I troll motor around.

Just slow way way way down. Find em on electronics, and it's
on!!!

Enjoy guys.

Fastguy has the touch with the plastics. seen him in action & he can work it!
i can do the deadstick. LOL! but not well frown i prefer to chunk n wind so holding my lure still & twitching it w/a tight line is going to take a lot more practice for me. hiring a good guide that's dialed in at least once is also good advise IMO because using the electronics correctly is definitely key. last week i witnessed Lakeguide dead sticking 2 rods working the troll motor, talking casually with everyone while watching his sonar n letting us know to get ready when we were over fish. FIsh oN!!! he was actually calling the bite. NOW THAT'S GOOD!
right now the fish are in deep water so it would help to know where to start looking.

Easy question. If you're deadsticking and the wind is drifting you .6 MPH should you anchor over the marked fish or use the trolling motor.

When I'm drifting at that speed I stay hung up too much.

Thanks

Are you asking if anchoring is preferable to trolling motor, or are you just asking if you should use one of them to hold position?

You could also consider using a driftsock to just slow your drift down.

.6 isn't too fast to drift, you can adjust the speed and depth with the trolling motor.

I try to stay on them with the trolling motor but frequently drift over large schools of shad.

I would think you would flat wear yourself out raising and lowering an anchor.

I noticed some guys in a bass boat using Matt and Jimmy's secret technique yesterday, it was working "a little" but bringing in sand bass.

Steve insists that we only fish for hybrids...

One simple tip to keeping a tight line is using the correct weighted jig head. I also observed that it's very difficult to set the hook when my rod tip is high. I really need to keep it more horizontal to the water thumb

One thing for sure. The Dead Stick Method is a winna!

NOT ME frown

Think about getting a pair, that will help hold the boat steady when the run is on...

Someone mentioned ledges at Benbrook. Best area to find them. Will be in kayak so wont be able to run all over lake. Thanks...btw, my plan is to dead stick gulp minnows on 1/4 jig head and try wild eyes too
