You might try catching smaller fish, from what I hear the one's you have been caching is too big for most reels, I don't use spinning reels so I can't help ya on that one!!!
Congradulations on your recent fishing trips!!!

A lot of guys have had really good luck with Cabelas salt strikers reels. Deerstrangler and 2fish both use em, and I have heard nothing but good things about them.

I'd go with a Penn Battle 5000 if I was planning on catching the monsters.. You can spool it with braid without having to back it with mono.

If you're going Quantum get a Cabo.
Food for thought. I caught a 41lb cobia with one of my Salt Strikers and it won the day and is still in use. Spinning tackle is super fun to catch big fish on.

Stumbled on another unbelievable clearance at academy today. Daiwa Exceller 3500 spinning reels $9.88. Regular $80.00 Better check on stock. They were out at NRH, Keller, Grpvn.

Penn all the way. Salmon fished with a guide in Alaska who swore by them. I have 3 spin and 2 bait cast and love them all. Wish all my reels were Penn but I'll use em til they kick the bucket, then replace when the time comes.

I have a couple Salt Striker 80 series W/baitfeeders and love them. Got them loaded with 80# braid and I like to run a very tight drag to run the hook home and keep the big cats out of structure. Has worked great on cats up to 60+ lbs. Big power handle makes it easier to horse them if you need to. Had them a full year now without any problems. They aren't metal but they don't bend either
