Is it better to put a screw back in the hole with marine grade silcone or get a fiberglass repair kit and fix the holes that way.(old transducer holes)

Thanks for Info

I have used the Fiberglass repair. The resin with fiber mixed in. So for it has held up good. I cleaned holes + inside of transom real well. Then applied repair to inside of transom- slightly thicker now and filled holes. Maybe someone with more experience will chime in soon. Good luck with your repair and Have a Merry Christmas.

Silicone will work as well as Marine Tex. I wouldn't go through the trouble of using fiberglass but that would work too.

Just make sure you work the material into the hole good.

Marine tex or 3M 5200 will make the screw hole permanent. Given the choice marinetex wins.

I would silicon the screws back in you never know what new item will come out and you may need them.

patts right marine tex is best, it chemicaly bonds to the hull and it comes in white grey and black, with a little care you can blend it in if your hull is one of those colors

I agree. 5200 probably easier, though. Everything I've read said to stay away from silicone, especially below the water line. BTW I used 5200.

I do it this way, tape the area off into a small square around the holes with painters tape and then apply marine tex to the hole, then cover the marine tex with wax paper and smooth it down. When it dries just pull all the tape off and then sand it down even with surrounding area. I've done it more than once this way and you couldn't even tell there was ever a hole there.
