Went out by myself and poked around and found the fish by the burned out bridge in 28-30 feet of water. Limited out on some huge sandies and caught three hybrids. The hybrid in the picture gut swallowed the slab. Was prepared today... When went with Todd Saturday had wrong size lures. Used a 3/4 oz. chartruese slab from Barlow's that I use in the winter. Sorry Moe! It's a perfect little shad looking slab. They were killing it today. Saturday was using a 1-1/2 oz. slab. Birds were diving today and was only one other boat out there. Frying these for some family in town tomorrow. All the fish I cleaned at my slip at Harbor Bay were stuffed with those shad the same size as my slab. Was funny the gulls were diving and eating all the shad that floated when I threw the fish in as I was cleaning them.... Happy Fishing.

SWEET!!! Nice job frank!! Glad ya whacked em. I went back last Sunday after our Saturday slaying, and they were nothing like what we saw day before.

They definitely seem to want a little smaller bait. Jmo.

See ya on the water

Yaffe it's a blue Glastron fish and ski... I thought more people would show up when those birds started diving. But it was just me and two guys in another boat. Did you get on them?

Keith I spoke to Terry today and we were talking about getting back out Monday. That's the back side of that new moon so hopefully they will be cooperating... I'll let you know. Hope the weather and wind cooperates....

Mike I almost went back out Sunday but didn't. Sounds like I made the right decision! I had some other poles set up with different baits and never put that pole down with that small slab on... Gotta love this winter "catching!"

I found them on the way back to the ramp at Robertson park. The birds were circling but not diving so I went to explore and it was game on!!! Didn't have to down size they were killing a 4 inch sassy. Big Sandie was 15 3/4 inches and they were agressive.

Nice...I saw different groups of birds today but most were "scouting" it seemed until they started diving by that old bridge by the dam. Glad you found them! I saw a lot of boats not catching today....

nice fish everyone ! Due to "circumstances beyond my control" (work !), I have only fished twice this year ... not good ! ... but hope to try Hubbard sometime between Christmas and New Years since I do have one day off. Any help on what slab/sassy shad to try would be appreciated. I will have my young son with me and we don't keep any fish, but either hybrid or sandbass lure selection would be appreciated. Sorry, I am not on the forum hardly ever due to my schedule, but any info is appreciated. Thanks, and Merry Christmas to all !

Jimbo nice fish! Man there is nothing like catching those hybrids. Plus fishing with your Dad it doesn't get any better than that. I figure my Dad is up in Heaven helping God stock the lakes until I get there and then we can fish together again!

Slabber- Lot of fish being caught on smaller slabs and sassy shads. I prefer chartreuse but that's just me. The key right now is put the lure down to the bottom and barely move it. Almost like a crappie bite. Pull the rod up quickly as soon as feel the tap. You'll hear everyone calling it deadsticking. Good luck!

Thanks for the info/help. With a slab, do you just hold it still, just off the bottom, and not move it at all ? I have never "dead stick" a slab or sassy slab, so please excuse my lack of knowing exactly what to do with it. And can you drift doing this, or I would guess you just stay in a spot over the fish ? Thanks.

The fish will move around some and recently the birds have been the "guide" to let you know where the fish are. Yes just hold it still or move it ever so slightly up and down a couple inches. I also experiment and some times come up off the bottom a crank or two and do the same slow moving routine. You can drift but the last two times I was out it was almost dead still. Once the fish started biting I used my trolling motor to move with the birds. The fish are lethargic this time of year due to the cold water hence the slow bite. But they will bite... Also if you see people catching fish fish with them. These are big schools of fish and there's plenty for everyone. Next week looks perfect weather wise. So that's a plus. Post an update on how you do... Happy Fishing.

Thanks a bunch for the info. We will give it a try one day next week (hopefully !). This will be a new "experiment" for us trying this method in winter. So, we'll be a couple of newbies at it, but it'll be fun to try something new. Thanks !

Thanks Fishboy Frank & all others for the info help ... to report back(sorry it is a late report !), Wednesday was the only day I had off and my son and I tried to get on Hubbard but the wind was too much for my small boat. We went bank catfish fishing instead and managed 4 keeper channel cats, so it wasn't a total loss. Back to work now, and hope everyone has a great 2012 !
Thanks.

Keith those weather boys messed up! The wind was blowing strong out of the North. They called for 5-10 we got 10-15 and gusty. Terry and I texted all morning and they ended staying home which was a smart decision... It was really slow and cold. Hot soup, a fire, and two good bowl games last night helped me forget the earlier part of the day...

Keith I was too busy trying to not take water over the front of the boat and fighting the spray going through the waves! My brother and I looked like a couple popsicles out there... Now today blowing out of the south... Back at the grind at work and I am in slow motion. Posted to Austin's thread just now and had a question on there for you... I told my brother that you and I got a sun tan Saturday and then yesterday it was freezing. Full moon coming up on the 9th. May try to get out on weekend weather and wind permitting....

Frank, You and Jeff go out there and GET ON SOME FISH!!! it is an absolute beautiful day and I wish I could be out there as well. So catch a yellow or a drum for me rolfmao Keep all the hybrids and sandies for yourselves LOL

Happy fishing and Gob bless thumb

Keith it was perfect out... Unlike those gale force winds you and I had last Saturday! Terry and Ray are out on Hubbard today. They asked if I wanted to come along but work is calling me... Posted that I'm going with Matt Cartwright on Twok Saturday. Now that ought to be some fun... I'm sure some pictures will follow. BTW Sunday says 61 and light south wind. May end up going with my brother... I'm on-call next week so want to get all the fishing in I can....

WAY to GO Frank and Jeff thumb

Ps: I just looked at the weather for sunday morning and it is going to be blowing a whopping 2 mph and stay that way for the next four hours starting at 8 am LOL banana

Jeff I honestly think that it won't turn off until after mondays cold front hits. It is only going to be 9 degrees cooler at 60 deg. that it is right now. And the wind is suppose to be from the ESE at one point sunday before the monday front comes in.
