I am going to have a lot more free time on the weekends in 2012 and among other goals wanted to do a lot more fishing, specifically small tournaments.

The issue is that I don't own a boat. Can someone give me a few pointers on how to best approach this without being a total burden to others? I assume that joining a local bass club would be a good start and give me an opportuniy to hitch a backseat at club tourneys?

and dont feel intimidated by being non boater, i have a boat, have had one for 20 years, I still went the first two years here as a non boater to learn the lakes and techniques used in texas. Just go, have fun, and enjoy

Great advice, thank you. I will look up the club you suggested and get after it.

Great bunch of guys and very no boat friendly.

I emailed them on Tuesday but haven't heard back yet. Hopefully after the Holidays I can get the ball rolling.
