I get lead from tire shops.( old wheel weights) I melt it in a old pot using the fish cooker. Poor off the lead into a old corn bread mold. when you pour the lead out all the junk that is in the lead will go to the top of the pot. That is trash. I use the pure lead to put in my melter later. Its a little more work but I save a ton of money. I do tis about this time of the year and make my slabs in a few months. But for the last 3 years I use lead from a X-Ray room wall. I was given around 100 lbs of pure lead It has a thin paper on one side that has to burn off. I was lucky

The X Ray lead is good lead. I spent a lot of time trying to get that paper backing off before I finally just decided to heck with it and started letting the hot lead burn it off.
