WD-40 is made from fish oil. Yes it is a fish attractant. LOL

WD-40 will work fine for a while, but when it evaporates it leaves a sticky residue on line and reel that must be cleaned before the reel will work again. It will ruin any o-rings it gets on.

The base for WD40 is Menhaden oil, this is why it works as an attractant. Don't know what it does to fishing line.

I'd be hesitant about spraying it on my line, but I'm game for adding it to my lure or bait

WD-40 stands for "Water Displacement – 40th Attempt". NO its has NO FISH OILS IN IT - thats purely an urban legend !!! THE MSDS for WD-40 are 51% Stoddard solvent (i.e., mineral spirits: primarily hexane, somewhat similar to kerosene) 25% Liquefied petroleum gas (presumably as a propellant; carbon dioxide is now used instead to reduce WD-40's considerable flammability) 15+% Mineral oil (light lubricating oil) 10-% Inert ingredients unless the 10% inert ingredients are menhaden oil, highly doubtful This was developed for Convair for use in Nuclear rockets in the 1950's when fish lubricants were non-existant. Fish eat alka seltzer too, soap, cigarette butts, just goes to show rubes are born daily

wd40 has many uses and I haven't found to be bad. All the suggested uses listed above I have used with no little negative results. One not mentioned is one I have used for several years with vcery good results.sprayed on knees, wrist and etc that are arthicic.Amazing. Going to try it on my fingers and see if it will help them to hit the correct keyes on this board.

WD-40 work great on braided line. Spray some into a little plastic bottle and use 4 or 6 drops on the line in the spool. For the last 8 feet to your bait, put some on with a piece of cloth so it will darken the line due to fading. This way you don't have over-spray everywhere else. I use it mainly on my spinning set-up, throwing wieghtless and for skipping. It virtually eliminated the little ennoying loops you get from time to time with spinning gear. It makes the line a nice dark color also. (In the past I used a green sharpy when the line started to fade.) The wd40 last longer and it keeps its color longer. It also improves the castability on windy days. I haven't noticed if it is good "fish attrachtant" or not. I don't catch as many fish as I used to but with less frustration. I tried "Reel Magic" but it doesn't work as well as WD-40 (for braid).

He swore by it.

Don't use it on guns - it will leave a residue that will gum up over time. Gunsmith's hate the stuff. As a lubricant, try Rem Oil - much better.
