WD-40 stands for "Water Displacement – 40th Attempt".
NO its has NO FISH OILS IN IT - thats purely an urban legend !!!
THE MSDS for WD-40 are
51% Stoddard solvent (i.e., mineral spirits: primarily hexane, somewhat similar to kerosene)
25% Liquefied petroleum gas (presumably as a propellant; carbon dioxide is now used instead to reduce WD-40's considerable flammability)
15+% Mineral oil (light lubricating oil)
10-% Inert ingredients
unless the 10% inert ingredients are menhaden oil, highly doubtful
This was developed for Convair for use in Nuclear rockets in the 1950's when fish lubricants were non-existant.
Fish eat alka seltzer too, soap, cigarette butts, just goes to show rubes are born daily
