On Saturday, Feb 4th we will have a Soldier Fishing Day at Wind Point Park on Lake Tawakoni followed by a Fish Fry that evening. Wind Point has donated camping areas to all interested in the event. This will be just some good ole boys taking some deserving soldiers fishing (nothing fancy and no soldier fishing groups are involved).
Feb 3: Soldiers and volunteers arrive at Windpoint if they want to camp overnight. If you need any special accommodations, just let us know.
Feb 4: 7:00am will be a meet and greet and take off fishing at 7:30am. (boat launch location TBA depending on water level).
The fish fry will start up at 2:30pm to approx 5pm.
Feb 5: check out
We need volunteers to help with the event, as well as any donations for door prizes (prizes to be given to soldiers).
Pass this along to your friends and family - we look forward to seeing you there!
If you have any questions just call me at 940-229-0288.
EDIT: It would be prefered if all fish over 15# be released. Not manditory but to keep the good brood fish in Twok it is preferable that all fish over 15 pounds be photographed and released... THANKS
ALSO.. I can not require this but I would like to suggest that any fish over 15# gets released to grow BIGGER!!!
Edited by Larry in Tawakoni (12/24/1107:21 PM) Edit Reason: Added suggesting bigger fish get released!

Stay over is not manditory guys... if you can show up that morning to take some guys out, GREAT. If you need to get back after fishing and cant stay for the fish fry, im sure everyone will understand.
Also, I have a guy intrested in bringing his big smoker out and cooking also.. so it might be more than a fish fry.
Filled out my registration. Just curious, do any of the tent campsites have electricity? Was kinda thinking of bringing a heater etc for my tent, as it's fairly large and can accomodate 4 people easily.

Varies per boat and not everyone added how many their boat can handle... so Im going to say between 25 to 30 right now... thats not including me, my dad and a friend... thats 12+ more.
And I have a couple of ppl that said they were gonna be there but not sign up.... Like I say.. we need more soldiers
I am interested in helping. I have an 18 boat (deep V hull fish and ski) and can carry out a 2 or 3 in my boat (depending on if wife comes or not) However I do not know lake Twak and I will need some pointers on where to take the guys to catch fish. I have all the tackle and gear they will need but I do not want to take the guys out and not catch much when all their buddies are catching good numbers. Will someone who knows the waters help me out? These guy (and gals) do so much for us if I get involved I want to show them a good time. Let me know if someone want to share some pointers and I will work on rearranging my schedule.

I gave the info to my boss rep. He should be getting in contact with you larry. So I'm asuming that the info will be put out to my company (250 to 300 personel strong) tomarrow.
Iv got a 21ft bass boat don't really know much about cat fishing but if I can be of any help taking people out fishing and such sounds like fun and a good way to meet some good people I'd be in.
If you get a need for more boats just let us know. Sounds like you have more boats than soldiers. If you need more boats... I'm in. I could carry me and 1 other.

Ill be keeping tabs on the weather and if yall have any concerns just gimme a call!

If it was windy on Tawak and I had a 4 and 5 year old in the boat... I would stay on the side of the lake the wind was blowing out of where it was calmer... I wouldnt have a problem with it but it would limit where i fished

Gonna post a new link.. but I think were gonnna need a couple of more boats if possible! Just got an updated list from Lakelass and several signed up at the last minute... looks like around 30 have signed up and out of 10 boaters a couple can only handle 1 or 2 people... Ill be calling people who sent messages to see if there gonna make it but didnt sign up.
So if you were unsure if you were needed... YOU ARE!

I can't thank yall enough! I'm at larrys house. To day was a long day. Started with 2 consecutive change of command cerimonies. Then a manditory black history month class. All the while the platoon sergant saying that were going. To be staying late. So I tell tommy to go ahead with out me. The new commander tells everyone they are released,no exceptions. I drop my phone and shatter my phone. Then it takes 2 hrs at Sprint to get a new one. But I'm here. The journey has begun
Larry and the gang did a great job on the fish fry.It was an honor to be able to fish with a bunch of guys that risked their lives so we could all enjoy our everyday lives.THANKS Soldiers!!! we ended up cleaning 33 with 8 released over 7# largest fish 20#.It was a great day on the water with even better food and new friends.

I wanted to say, what a sucess! I thorualy enjoyed meeting every one. I found it funny how I introduced my self as my screen name. I'm arleady looking foward to the next time. Decent fishing was a plus. And Larry, that fish was excenent.
Hope everyone made it home safe! I am very thankful to be a part of this fourm. This whole thing started by someone asking for help. Larry not only took these soldiers out ,but came up with having this whole day to take other soldiers out.I think Larry pulled it off without a hitch. The food was great! Nice to put some more screen names with faces. My Favorite part of the day was hearing Nothead make a noise every time his 50# fish bit him gitting ready for the pic. I wanted to thank LOWE'S of Plano ,and GEICO for the items to give to the soldiers.THANK YOU VETS/ SOLDIERS FOR ALL YOU DO.
DJ you are still welcome to come over ,and go out with me sorry about your grandmother you ,and your family are in my thoughts ,and prayers.

Dj, my family and church has you and your family in prayer. Mj, that was funny. And imedatly after getting bit a couple of times, he stood up and said," to help with noodleing!" Lol.
How bout when I hooked that fish and told Emily to reel it in and she said, "I don't know how, I might screw it up!" What an awsome day!

Man, where to begin? What a great day it was. I had a blast. You might be able to tell by the big smile I had in my pic. Thank you to Larry for putting together a great event (and cleaning our fish). Thanks to MJ for taking us out. You and your son were great hosts. It was really nice meeting both of you. thank you to Lake Lass for helping TDI out with the pic posting.
I was wiped out today. Getting up at 0300 and not getting home until almost 10:00PM made for a looooong day. It was all worth it though. I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to spend the day with. I can't wait to do it again. My fishing buddy is over in Korea right now, but he will be back around August, and then he is heading out for El Paso. I am going to schedule a trip to bring him up there before he leaves.
We really wished we could have made this - albeit there were issues with work. In the interim we are seriously glad to hear everyone had a great time - seeing the pics and getting updates from our friends/extended family there.
I am putting together a collection of the pics - so if you have any on your camera or phone and would like to have them added, please send to melanie@lakelass.com
Again, thank you to all the soldiers for your service and thank you to every volunteer. Much kudos to Larry Thomas who took his idea and made it happen - we've been wanting to see a soldier fishing day on twok for a long time!
I would like to give tremendous credit to Larry for putting this all together. The wife and myself had a great time and enjoyed meeting all of you we did meet. Thanks again to the soldiers for their service so that we have the freedoms to attend events like this. Thanks to the guides for the good times had by all.
