You just said the government doesn't use them. That is why Texas needs them, so Texas can use them and not have to bother with what the government does or doesn't do.

I'd rather have too much law enforcement along the border than not enough.

Obama just cut the National Guard in half. That means less man power on the boarder. Do any of you think the state will turn these guns loss on any one that is playing by the rules? I very serious don’t think so. It is an intimidation factor. The government, national and state is going to spend money. If not on this, then something else I don’t fish border lakes but if I did it would give me ease if I saw something like this that would come to my add if I needed it. Have you forgot about the LA bank robbers that had undergun L.A. police at there mercy mad This sould never be allowed to happen ever. This is the same thing now on the boarder lakes and rivers. The Boarder Patrol is out gunned and out man. This will help level the playing field. It is easy for us to set in ower safe warm bed, what about the men and Women that risk there lives so that will happen. Some area of the boared help for LEO might be a long way getting there. I have no problem with the state getting these boats.

Agreed! There is enough enforcement capabilities already. Having more tools are not gonna help without policy changes. They need greater power to intervein and Mexico permission to pursue on to there water and lands. Profile suspects without prejudice.
While giving them more power doesnt set well with me. Its still my idea. And many may argue that the government has won because Im now willing to sacrafice my civil libertys because of fear.
What would it be like if they were not here??
Or just make it all legal and deal with that.
That will not work eather because the drug paths are no longer just drugs it's humans and so on. So all those operations will just increase.
So what we do is throw money at what we have to work with and hope for the best.
Bitching is the easiest thing to do. Without doubt.
I dont undestand where the operating budgets come from on these deals. Were suppose to be broke but they keep reaching back in to the bottomless piggy bank.
Im curious as to the daily fuel budget in just Zapata county from all government operations.

As far as why Texas would have these capabilities when the feds have them already, it is nothing more than jurisdictional overlap- the same reason that right on your own street there are many agencies at all levels of government that can enforce the various laws. Imagine how many different types of cops can write you a ticket for speeding- Highway patrol, city police, sheriff, etc. etc.

Jurisdictional overlap allows authorities to ensure crime and protection don't fall between the cracks of bureaucracy, with various agencies saying, "it wasn't our problem".

I think questioning these purchases is a good thing. I also see what is happening in northern Mexico and I say it's better to have the capability and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Hopefully there is not large scale armed conflict coming to our borders, but some would say it's already here. 580k is a drop in the bucket compared to what's at stake.

I was at a border patrol station a couple months back and all the patrol suv were covered in dust. I asked the agent "damn! u guys ever drive these things" all jokingly. He went on to explain to me how they had been parked for months since they didnt have enough money in the budget for fuel but plenty for OIT and other things but for actually going out on the border they were limited until the next budget came out. He told me jokingly "thats obamas way of keeping us from doing our job". With my job I see this over and over again. Drives me nuts. I know bitching doesnt help....but makes u feel alittle relief for a few minutes!lol. Don't mess with Texas.

Who's the boat manufacturer? I didn't see any decals on the boat. Boston Whaler? I know they've done a few gunships in their past, just curious.

I am in full support of this. It is only a matter of time the violence spreads deeper into the country. The Drug cartels have no mercy for anyone including Americans!!!

there is no way that boat drafts 6 inch. , even if it was running wide open. its an offshore hull. and you have probably 3k lbs of motor and rigging on the far a$$ end.

The hull looks like a Fountain to me. Fountains for years have had the fastest boats around.
