Made a video that might help someone out with dead sticking and fishing during these winter months.

Actually made two version of it. PS: An option is to double click these videos and watch from You Tube's site with a little bigger screen.

A shorter version - about 8 minutes - more to the point:

A long version - about 15 minutes - more real time, little more info:

I should have talked about when to down size your baits and most likly many other tips (like - different lures to use, dead sticking suspended fish, etc..), but hopefully others will add in here with more tips.

Merry Christmas,

Thanks Guys,

Larry and Connie - missed y'all ThanksGiving. Yep the Grand Girl is coming in soon. Looking forward to that. But she's a Yankee now - she'll probably talk in yankee.

May be Rosetta Stone has a course for speaking Yankee.

Enjoyed the video and is a wealth of information. What's the difference between jigging and dead sticking?

Mark, that is a nice video but I think the title is a little misleading!! The fishing in the video is just a slowed down presentatioon of jigging a slab!! It is not what I would consider deadsticking. Well not in the way I learned it from several of the experts on here several years ago!! Nice video though and informative!!

Good Ruben,

So what's your method that you've use/learned.

Thanks,

Well the way I was taught "true deadsticking" by the expert guides I have fished with is: Locate fish on the graph; mark the depth the fish are holding; lower your lure to the depth right above the fish you are targeting; hold rod/lure completely still...fish on!! Ocassionally...very ocassionally you will raise your rod tip up then lower it slowly. If you are moving it a lot then that would not be true deadsticking it!!

If you need further clarification I would ask Mike Acosta or John Varner. They are the first ones that I knew of that were deadsticking!!

Ruben,

That's a good point. As the water gets colder and as the fish get slower, you move the lure even less - all the way to dead still.

Put that lure wherever the fish are (suspended or on the bottom) - and just slightly above - and move the lure as little as necessary to trigger the bite (all the way to dead still).

Another good topic would be down sizing your lure/baits for dead sticking – and when to do that.

Thanks Ruben,

Fished RC yesterday with some new customers. They were originally scheduled for today (Friday), but due to the front coming thru we switched days to the perfect conditions we had yesterday (glad they could do that).

There were more boats on the lake than I've seen since summer. The lake has come up almost a foot. The cat fishermen did really well with bunches of 3 to 5 ponders, with the big being a big female 40 inches (about 40lbs). Drifting was out of the question (no wind) for Big Blues so they stayed anchored on points in 25 feet of water and made a good day of it.

The Hybrids and White Bass were good on the humps and points. The Windsock had quite a few boats on it (I’m sure catching fish) but stayed away from that. Of course dead sticking was the ticket – using either slabs with jig on top or flukes/bass assassins.

We stayed with the 1 1/2oz slabs but if you’re having trouble getting them to hit it or your missing more than you think you should – switch to smaller baits (and a smaller fluke too).

Caught some really big Hybrid Yellows and some nice Hybrids with limits plus on the White Bass.

Merry Christmas,
