crappy1 Outdoorsman Registered: 12/13/11 Posts: 119 Loc: Grand Prairie TX	this is an excellent time to find crappie in the creeks deep ones though not little 4-6 ft one. fish the deep bends 9- 20ft they typically have structure in the due to flood wash. try a 32nd once jig under a slip bobber. try different depths and fish slow. hope that helps. _________________________ Crappie it's what's for dinner!

I have been seeing and hearing of a few small fish being caught up the river. Nothing with any size. I went up there last Sunday to scout/fish a few of my best spots from last year and didn't get bit. The crappie usually turn on around the 2nd week of Jan @ night under lights up the Gabe. I've been catching a few in the San Gabe. but it's not where it flows into Granger. I'm finding them in pools where the fish got trapped by dropping water levels. There are several places up river you can park and walk the river. Id think your best bet would be to park at the ramp for small boats and walk towards the lake. Just north of where state hwy 95 crosses the San Gabriel, take county road 347. go east about 1.7 miles, the road will come to a T intersection, turn left to stay on 347. go another mile, then turn right (east) on CR 378. Stay on 378 for about a mile, then turn right (south) on CR 391. In about 1/3 of a mile, CR 391 will dead end in a dirt parking area. This is called gate 6 on the COE maps. You will need to hike about 300 yards south from the parking area to get to the river. Turn upstream and in 50 to 100 yards you will find a steep cut bank. (lots of paths where fishermen have walked) When the stream is running normally, this is a great crappie spot, not sure how it is now. Due to the length of walk, minnows will be a pain to mess with.
