There are basically two varieties of carp in Texas.
The Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio) and the white amur, aka Grass Carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella).
There are several varieties of sucker in Texas, including the spotted sucker, gray sucker, golden redhorse, smallmouth buffalo, largemouth buffalo, and others. Although there are similarities between carp and suckers, they are not closely related.
