Does anyone know the range of these things. Do they work say in Rowlett, Rockwall, or Plano. I get great reception on my big antenna but never tried the smaller in house version.

I've got one sitting on the floor behind my TV that works great when the storms get really bad and we loose satelite reception. I live in Saginaw, so don't know how well they'd work in your neck of the woods.

I was told by the cable guy while he was installing my cable that you just about have to be in a metro area. Not sure if he was blowing smoke but I couldnt get a signal for cocka.

I get a signal part of the time at Lake Fork but I have a big antenna. From worst to best here is the order: 11, 4, 5, 8.

Best reception is in the evening and morning. Starts fading around 10 PM for some reason. I have a big antenna in my attic with a power booster and I get all the locals real well except sometimes 11.

I need to get a little inside antenna for my daughter and that is why I asked. She is on the second floor in an apartment in Rockwall.

They are in Cedar Hill actually. Yes close to DeSoto but one of the things that makes Cedar Hill unique...

I use to have a digital antenna in Grapevine. It worked well except when planes flew over. I lived about a mile north of DFW. I wasn't too impressed to say the least.

Was it the interior type? Being north of DFW the planes were probably blocking the signal because they were coming down between you and the towers. Digital is funny you either have a signal or you do not. I get a 15 maybe sometimes 20 and Lake Fork and picture looks like I am at home getting a 90.

It was the interrior type. My wife's grandmother gets great reception in Weatherford. We are right in the middle of DFW and can't get a signal.

You can build your own for about $10 that will get better reception than those store bough pieces of carp that focus more on aesthetics than reception.

This link will show you the distance and compass heading to towers near you so that you can adjust the antenna to face them.
http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/Welcome.aspx

You can get fancy and play around with multiple arrays and scatter fields behind them. But this $10 DIY one using coat hanger wires will out perform the ones you buy in a store. Line Of Sight is critical with the digital signals so if you have a large structure between you and the source you will receive poor reception. Generally speaking the higher you place the antenna off the ground the better it will work.

Here's another site for the do it yourselfer. It only took us about 30 minutes to build one. The reception was sooooo good, two other family members HAD to have one. My son in Mesquite lives in a two story house and has the clearest picture of any of us.

Here's the link I forgot to put in my response. Ours look exactly like this one. The back is either cardboard or a piece of plywood, doesn't make any difference, because the foil is the receptor.

The foil is the scatter field making it more directional and blocking interference from other sources. Screen or hardware cloth with do the same thing.

Update

I originally bought the non-powered version. I hooked it up at the house and was missing a couple of channels. One was 8 which is strange because 8 is my best channel at lake Fork. I traded the passive version for a powered one. My daughter hooked it and loved it. Not sure if she is missing any channels but she said she gets 32 of them.
