I wish they would make smarter choices regarding Walleye stocking in Tx. By that I mean spend less money on walleye stocking in lakes where they don't stand a chance and stock more hybrids, stripers, and small mouth just to name a few in lakes that get stocked with less fish. I would think PK, Wheeler, and Texoma would be fine for more Walleye stocking because their depth. Just my opinion.

WTG on the EYE Now give us the scoop. What bait, depth, water temp etc. I was out their last week and couldnt get a Walleye bite at all. I caught one about a month ago on a LC Pointer in 8' water. Last week Berry Stokes was fishing for them too with no luck. I would sure love to figure out a pattern on them.

Throwing to about 25' of water and dragging it up to about 8-10' of water and thats when we'd get bit..they wouldnt take all of the bait at first so we had to let them chew on it for a bit then dot their eyes!

try c-rigging a nightcrawler for them. I cannot find my air injector, but a needle will add air to a worm and make it float.

I didn't know we had walleye in Texas. I know they tried to stock them a long time ago in a bunch of shallow lakes. Might have to figure out where Wheeler Branch is sometime.

Meredith had a good population of walleye before it dried up. Natural spawn too. 11 lb. lake record. I have caught a few thousand walleye from Meredith. White River and Greenbelt also have some.

Nice walleye! Now all we need is yellow perch.... Amen to that. Yellow Perch would be a great addition. It needs to be in a good sized lake with full public access, though. Not a private pond like Wheeler Branch.

I heard they stocked the biggest mudhole in the state (Lavon). Now that is dumb. Meredith might be the only lake that they reproduced in and now it is pretty much a dry rock quarry.

Me and a buddy of mine went out there a few months back and saw Barry Stokes there fishing. Crappy weather and the fishing wasnt great. Caught a few bass and Barry said and hung an EYE on a drop shot. He mentioned it on the show but got off at the boat. Southwest outdoors is his show and they are on youtube. We even got on TV!!! Ok so we were the blurry image in the back ground of his sponsor advertising. I am ready to go back since Lake Granbury is dying and Squaw Creek hasnt come to life yet.

Nice walleye! They are stocked into Wheeler as fry that TPWD gets from Colorado via trades. There isn't enough to stock a larger lake. The hope is that they will reproduce in Wheeler because of the depth and structure that are in it.
A correction to a previous poster, Wheeler isn't a private lake. Anyone can fish there and the facilities are really nice.

We try to go at least every other weekend or so. We heard that the fishing has been tough for most people but we go out there and smash them all the time! As far as the walleye go, we got onto a descent bite but it was different than a bass bite.. we were using a trick worm and they would bite it in half. so we would pull up our bait and it was bit off all the way to the hook. So the next few bites we had we let them chew on it for a while then let it rip. we ended up catching 3 Eyes that day and probably had 6-7 bites but it was much diff than bass.

pretty interesting link on TPWD website that tells you how many walleye are stocked in which lakes on a annual basis. check it out, looks like Wheeler is where its at for Walleye stocking in Texas the past few years. WALLEYE stocking in Texas by year http://tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/ac...7&Submit=GoI caught a couple of real nice ones 4lbs & 7.5lbs out of white river lake hour East of Lubbock in the mid 2000s. 22" 4lbs 28" 7.5lbs Unofficial lake record, haha saw pics on larger ones caught but not turned in at lake white river, don't think they were heavily fished for either. Most of the big ones i saw were caught at the crappie dock on live bait. Old marina website shows an old lake record of over 14lbs which would crush the current state record of 11 lbs from Meredith, but i'm willing to bet that was caught many many years ago. http://www.whiterivermarina.com/lake.htm

Are there any boat regulations for Wheeler Branch. My father was under the assumption that you couldn't use a gas engine.
