Fishing has been slow for me. Most of the fish have been dinks with a few 5lbers mixed in. The last trip I caught them on EVERYTHING...... Large Super Flukes, Spinner Baits around weed beds, large worms, Square bills and traps. Seems like they will hit anything but I couldn't really develop a pattern really due to the 15mph winds i was facing. Prior to that traps were the key. BlueChrome and anything chartreuse.

Not sure if this will help any but I caught 2 at the mouth of possum, surface temp was 59ish. One on shallow crank, the other on a 8" lizard. Then went to Naylors tank where I proceeded to loose yet another deep driving crank which brings my total lost there to 7 cranks to the tune of almost $90 bucks bang. Can't figure out what is down there but I'm thinking a fence line? Anyways went to 4 fingers and caught a fatty 5 lber on a 1 oz football jig, she was in 5ft of water and the temp was 63 there but it got colder towards the back of 4 fingers (57). Lots of health hydrilla almost every place I fished. Didn't get alot of time to fish and I tried some new places but the weather was soooo beautiful!

Which is Naylors tank? Down near south shore? Was planning to try the river Wednesday or thursday. Still early for the choke bite, but I don't think he weather will hold up enough for me to fish Falcon. Need to run he boat and learn these new electronics. I have a few tank coordinates that I need to mark on he new machine.

Thanks, Jim

If you launch at south shore and head west it's right in front of a house with a red roof. The big tank on the maps, it has a long dam, across the whole cove! I will warn you now, do not fish the top of it with a crankbait! There is a pit next to the tank (actually in front of it) and I caught a 7 in it last summer. I just can't ever get consistant results when I fish it, well I get the same result with the cranks. Think I'm going to have to invest in one of those crankbait poles that help you get your baits back.

One of my fishing buddies has one of those retrieval fish things on the end of a rope. Slip it on your line and let it slide downtown the crank then bang it a few times. Seen him save many a crank at Falcon. Guess I need to order one of those tomorrow!!!!

Thanks for the info on Naylors tank. I have heard of it but never marked it. Guess I will do that if I fish that end of the lake.

I have fished that tank dam prob 20 times in the last five years. Never caught a fish but my cousin caught a 2 lber on it one time. I don't fish it anymore, there are better deep water spots that don't get pounded by every Tom dick and Harry (no offense grout!).

Haven't been to choke since late spring. How low is it?

Lakes 11'ish low. The only reason I still fish the dam is because of the 7lb I caught there last year. I don't know of too many other deep areas, I've tried a few but never had any luck. Did anyone of you guys see the show with Zona & Kriet a year or two ago? They caught some bigguns somewheres on the lake off a tank dam but I never could tell which one it was.

That tank dam is so silted up and slimmed in it is of little value right now.

I have located 41 pond dams on Choke so far. May be a few more out there.

I fished the evening bite... I caught nothing. I fished southshore and 4 fingers. Threw everything I typically throw. I talked to a few other boats as well. 2 dinks is all I heard.

saw very large schools of them in 30-40ft of water suspended around 18-25ft. Never got them to bite either.

Saw a lot of suspended fish at 22.5 fow.

Another buddy had 3 bites with 1 going 5#.

We went back on Monday just to confirm how bad it/we sucked on Saturday. Monday's results...1 fish in the boat. Fished from 7am -noon. We threw just about everything we had between both days. Worst 2 days we've ever had on Choke!!

I hooked into the biggest fish of my life on choke out of that pond dam zona was fishing, well the flat next to the pond dam was dead sticking a 6" senko... (estimate it around 10-13 lbs)

Only thing I ever catch off naylor's tank are white bass.

It is on the south side of the lake and is marked on most maps as "Big Pond Dam".

I find the deep fish on choke relate better to rock than just sheer depth changes. In other words a more gradual drop from 15-20 with rock will always produce much better than a steep drop from 10-20 with no rock. Just like falcon.

Hence, not alot of really productive pond dams on Choke.

Launch at south shore, turn left. go about 1/2 - 3/4 mile (maybe a mile), big cove on the left. Dam runs from east to west across the whole cove, it's long. Top of dam was (I think 8ft-11ft can't remember exact depth). The dam is out by the main lake not towards the back of the cove. Get a map and you will see what I'm talking about. If you really want to lose a crankbait fish the west side of the dam, that's where I have lost everyone of mine. You have been warned! crying sarcastic

I found it on my map....thanks for the help. I wanted to try the area near the old 72 bridge Monday but I just wasnt up for battling the wind. How's that area been for everyone in general? I'm trying to force myself to try some new areas this year offshore. Looks like that would be a good area to start...

I just down scanned the whole old 72 road for the first time the other day. One of the bridges is pretty much nothing but a culvert, the other is pretty long. Not many fish by either of them but there were tons of something (crappie, whites, gaspergoo, cats,??? not sure) along the road in certain places. They didn't graph very big so I don't think they were bass. I'm not too sure where these guys are catching these off shore fish at and they sure won't tell.

The 44 mag retriever is good but a bit expensive. I have one of those bill dance type retrievers that consists of a heavy chunk of metal and several chains attached to the end. It is pretty much the same but much cheaper. I have modified it though to better meet my needs.

I took an old two piece rod (lower section) and put an old reel on it with 100 lb braid. I tie the retriever on to the braid and this allows me to retrieve lures in deep water as well as shallow. I've retrieved swim baits stuck in 25 feet of water. Having the retriever on a pole gives you much better control during the process and much more line to work with.

All you need to do is place the retrievers main hook on your line and push the thumb bar on the reel to allow the retriever to run down the line to your bait. Once you hit it just start jigging the retriever up and down until you free the lure.

@Nitro Dan That is a hell of an idea. I bet a cheap old reel and a 'tip broken' rod would suit that purpose well. Thanks for the idea.
