I have a little bit of oil on the bottom of my trim motor. Is this something I need to immediately fix or is it an easy fix. Any help will greatly be appreciated. Engine us 2001 mercury 225 Efi.

That means that the electric motor's "O"ring is leaking. You will be all right for a while as long as you don't overfill the oil reservior. If you do overfill it, it will force oil into the electric motor and POOF!

Mr. Halfman and Mr. Yetts thank you for this information. Is this a hard do it yourself job? I am no mechanic but was able to recently change out my impeller myself. I am a rookie with boats and appreciate all the help I have gotten from this forum. Mr Yetts, I have a bass cat boat and absolutely love it.

Can you visually see where the oil is coming from? If not use some type of powder like flour, or talcum powder and dust the t-n-t motor and cylinders. It will show up real quick that way. It could only be a wiper seal from one of the rams. Those are easy to fix. Some others not so easy. Locate the leak first and let us know.....

Yesterday I wiped the area off really good. I just checked and there is not any more oil/grease. I a not good with naming the parts. If I am looking right at the cylinder, there is a little bite of fluid on the very bottom between the cylinder and reservoir. It looks like the oil may be coming from the rod between the cylinder and ram

2002 Merc 225 EFI.
Mine seems to be slowly leaking from the bottom of the entire trim assembly. Everything else on the unit is dry. Kind of hard to troubleshoot over the internet though without seeing it so I may have to take some pictures of it tomorrow and share.

It seems to be leaking from the right side which is the pump side I assume, from what looks to be a large pin that goes across the unit, if I'm making sense. I'll get those pics after work.

You can see the staining coming from the bottom up, and notice the right lower section is more oily with a dab of oil between the center and right section. The left side doesn't have this leak. Close ups of the oily right section.
