Drove down to Fayette on Saturday for a solo trip. Most of the reports I've read lately have been pretty slow.

I fished from about 7:30 until 3:30. Caught about 30-40 fish with the biggest being about 6 lbs, four of them were over 4 lbs. Most of the fish were relatively small for Fayette standards, lots of 1 1/4 lbers, but they were fat and healthy.

Caught them on DD-22 crankbaits, Ito Vision jerkbaits, rattletraps, and c-rigs with a small finesse worm. I ran into a buddy that gave me an alabama rig around noon and I tore them up on that thing for awhile. Biggest one on that was probably 2 1/2 but I was catching them every cast for awhile.

Fish were on rockpiles, roadbeds, and grasslines. Didn't do any good in the reeds or flipping timber.

Later, I pulled out a red rattletrap and worked a few grasslines where I caught a few of my bigger fish and lost a giant, wished I would have thrown the trap all day. It seemed to be the key for the bigger bites.

Great trip and a great report. I just might have to head over that way tomorrow.

How much grass is currently in fayette? I used to spend a lot of time on fayette when it was loaded with grass..... But the few times i have been over the past year, the grass was very sparse and places that used to be loaded with grass,, were completely bald!

There's plenty of grass around prairie and the coves NE of the Prairie creek ramp. Also grass in the timbered coves on the SE side of the lake directly east of the discharge. I didn't fish any other coves, because i spent most of my time fishing offshore stuff.

There's also some black snotgrass that makes it tough to fish the trap at times, but you can usually keep the bait over the top of it and still be okay.

i was there all day sat. too. we did horrible with only 5 fish up until 10:30 when the sun warmed up a little. but after that we found some good schools off the deep humps on c-rigs and deep cranks. got into 1 school right at dark in front of the cabins at oak thicket that just finished the day off very exciting. no real size to anyone of the fish, but they are just some of the healthiest looking fish with every one of the bellies full. not sure where the big ones are but they are doing a very good job of evading us anglers. good luck!
