That's what knowing how does for you...
But, we were late to the lake today... 10:30 a.m. Did not see any groups of birds on the lower lake all day. Of course they could have been out there early when it was cloudy.
Or, you guys could have been up the lake somewhere.

Better Report? This was on the main lake and the birds worked early in several locations. I have not attempted the river though that is my favorite spot this time of the year. If we can get some water, i will be there.
All on artificials, no bait. Besides if i was to catch bait, it would be the day before not at 4am.
After the birds went down, the schools of fish were in 30 to 40 feet of water between the island and state park. Off the lake around 11am.

Have you put shad in the bait tank of your new boat yet?

Yes I have (when i first got it) and it is now set up to function to carry bait for most trips. If i need alot of bait, I can put an extra tank in the boat. First of all I bought a plug so that after the tank auto fills (once you start moving there is pickups on the bottom of the boat that auto fill the live wells) I plug the incoming supply after it fills. I also bought a PVC cap that slips over the overfill/drain stand pipe so you don't lose water when traveling. I also built a smaller version of my normal aerator/filter system that i use on all my tanks. I can use the recirc/aerator and it works ok, but i know my floating aerator works great cause that is what i use on every tank i own.
Put the salt in the tank, Put the cap on top of the standpipe and let the tank auto fill to the highest point and insert the plug (cannot be a cheap plug as the water pressure from the autofill will pop out the plug that comes with it). Add amquel and plug in the aerator. I have a separate battery for the bait tank(s).
Load bait. Works pretty good. Carried 50 mediumm/large baits several times without incident before the artificial season. Plan on using for most trips.
You don't want water exchanges once you salt and treat the water. You can add half gallon jugs of ice in the dead of summer to cool slightly.

I used Loafers Bend east. You can launch, but keep your motor high off the rocks when you get close. I saw that Harbor Masters was being used again, that may be better. It is tricky to load and unload by yourself if you dont want to run your boat on the rocks while you park the truck. Harbor Masters may be better.

Still wish Whitney would catch some more water. It would be nice to have a dock to tie up to!
