After talking to joe yesterday about a place to fish we decided to go to a new spot on a new lake,im sure some know where im talking about, we got there at 5am, the wind was blowing pretty good and it was 45 but felt much colder, at 6am we got out of our cars and scouted the area, and had our spots picked out, and started setting up, we took out time on this lol. about 7.30-8 a guy shows up and walks down and says we are in his spot. im thinking ok there is a mile of bank space, just join us. he tells joe that we are in his spot and that he cant hit is spot with the wind blowing like it is. umm ok whatever, then he leaves. a little while later a friend comes by and tells me the weeds are bad where we are at, so i test them out and sure enough they are, so me and joe pack up and move 40 yards down the bank, i start checking for weeds, very very few. after i tie on my shock leaders, i make my lemon size method balls and put them out 80-90 yards, and the waiting begins. after 3 hours os silence i get a run and it was catfish about 5 pounds, then about a hour later i get a short run, i thought catfish but when i set into it, it was heavy.turned out to be a 37 pound buff. later on joe gets a run and for him it was a new pb buff at 25. he was using his new setup which i gotta say the rods are very nice and a couple times he was out casting me with his rods. i was happy to see him get a pb on his new stuff. we fished hard thru the day and i managed a 36 buff, a 27 buff and a good one at 41 and also a carp at 11 pounds. i had a great time joe grats on the pb, post your pics when you can.

here is my 2 from my phone, my 37

and my 41. which got stuck in the wall of weeds and took a bit to get out.

I say those pics are photo shopped! Should have painted you in some more hair too! LMAO! Great fish, glad y'all caught.

This "My" swim at "My" lake mentality that some people are suffering from would be comical, if it wasn't so sad.

You're right Auggie they have been photo shopped. We decreased the size of the fish so you wouldn't feel too bad...lol.
It was good seeing Mike,Auggie,Kevin.Good meeting Chris Mund for the first time as well.
As fior the " My Swim" thing,we wouldn't have set up in the first swim had we known someone was going to be fishing it.Turned out we didn't fish it after all and had less weeds to deal with.So all turned out good.

Well the same guy gave some other people greif today bout it being his swim again. The guys he talked [censored] to are new to carp fishing. They wanted me to be sure and thank him for his warm hello. After all we only luck into fish right. Tell him he can submit HIS record on HIS lake. Maybe he won't be so butthurt.

What if you had dumped a ton of bait and waited to fish a spot, then cme to find out that is is taken...two days in a row?

Bait costs $$

Do you have the right to do it, sure. The guy didnt assault anyone right? He can be pissed if he wants.

Being pissed is fine. Talking [censored] bout ppl that had nuthing to do with it is not. I didn't take his swim nor did I tell anybody to take it. If he was prebaiting then he needs to use his big boy words and say that. I'm sute they would have moved if he wouldn't have approached them wit1h a " this is my lake attitude".

Chris in order to prevent future confusion over who's spot is where, I took the liberty this morning of spray painting the name Buffaloman in flourescent orange on the bank where you busted that 41. wink

Chris I wouldnt worry about it in the least. You are nicer than I am.I cant believe someone has the nerve to walk up and say such things.Heck I have pre baited Emma twice, only to show up at the crack of dawn and find other fisherman right on top of it.No hard feelings about it at all.I didnt say anything to anybody just figured I made their day.hehe. I also dont pre bait anymore though.

That's a bunch of bs. Somebody saying it's there spot. To bad if you baited a spot and somebody was fishing it. Should get there earlier or fish it on the third day. If I was there. He would he SOL

jeeze guys, relax. he wasnt serious about it being his spot. he was just frustrated because he spends alot of money and puts in alot of time taking the boat out to bait up that specific spot and its where he likes to fish. obviously he knows he doesnt own the lake, but he's a grumpy guy and he acts that way. and when he finds two different crews fishing there two days in a row its frustrating for him. thats why he sounds like an [censored]. he didnt try to kick anybody out of thier spots or anything, or even ask anybody not to fish. its just one guy, i dont see why everybodys getting so worked up?

He wasn't actually rude to us.He just asked what we were doing in his swim when he got out of his vehicle.I introduced myself and we shook hands.Said he knew who I was...lol.
After a short conversation he said the wind was too much for him to cast to his spot, then he left.To me it's not a big deal.So I agree with Chris about relaxing. And I do hope your hand is doing better Chris.Looking forward to sharing the bank with you at some point.

Jeeze you guys talk a lot of smack. Sorry to be an [censored]&)$! Just sucks showing up early and having folks exactly where you have been baiting. It's like buying a girl drinks all night and when you hotta whizz some dude scoops her up. Not trying to ruffle feathers. I get it there are too many carpers for the number of swims here now. Its getting kinda competitive. I'm not nor will I apologize for being miffed when someone is fishing on a baited spot I had been tending all week. Auggie I'm sorry you got mixed into this. I was misinformed. I will apologize for not being the nicest person in the world when I haven't had breakfast yet. Now can we just shutup and fish?

Grim, sounds like a little more communication at the time would have cleared it all up.
Not to criticize; I'm pretty grumpy in the morning too! wink

you: Hey guys, I've been prebaiting this spot for a couple of days... do you mind making room for me or moving to another spot?

them: Hey not at all! Sorry we didn't know you were prebaiting here; the weeds suck anyway! Have fun!

Anyway, that puts the ball back in their court to be coureous or to be jerks. From what they've said, they would have welcomed you and/or moved...

We're mostly a great bunch of guys who are inclusive, and of course sometimes grumpy. smile

All this talk about weeds? I fished there for 5 hours , caught 3 fish and didn't pull up a single bit of weeds. And I was in the supposed weedy spot?

Scott from what I saw you fished the same place Chris and Joe ended up. Adam usually sets up closer to the end right next to the reeds I believe.

I've fished decker 3 times this year. Hadn't had problems with the weeds. I do believe y'all about the weeds but they haven't bothered me so far.

I have had a few session with lots of weeds. But for the most part its clear where I like to fish. To the left of the boat ramp is dang near impossible to fish. O and congrats on a 3 fish session. Any commons or just Buff ?

scott, if your making casts that are over about 80 yards then your clear of the weeds. i know how you bomb them, so your probably out casting them? also, if your making pretty fast retrieves while reeling in then your probably getting your rig up and over? the weeds seem to stop between 70 and 90 yards off the bank depending on where your at, they also avereage only about 6' tall in most places. in some of the more shallow spots, like the cove to the left of the boat ramp, the weeds are thick almost all the way through.

chris and joe, the hand is still a bit sore but the gaping meat expolsion has held together nicely with no stitches or anything so i cant complain! looks like ill probably be able to stop babying it within a week or so?

let me just say 100 yards is a hella cast. if you wanna try do this, take 2 bank sticks set them 1 yard apart (3 feet) and count out 100 yards then clip up and go at it. i found out its me not my rods, it took me 5 casts to hit 100. then i went for 110, after 10 casts i gave up i couldn't hit 110. joe he can hit 120,130 with my rods, pondbass was hitting 100,110 too. im just weak lmao

Are you casting this far with 12lb big game mono Chris? My biggest problem is keeping the method on the feeder.Anything over about sixty yards and my method flies off.I've been adding a little flour to help hold it together even at that distance. You and Scott should school us noobs.

im useing a 17lb flurocarbon shock leader tied to 12 big game line. when i was going for 100/110 yards that was with no method, no rig, just a 3oz gripper lead. to hit 100 yards with method, id say make a ball no bigger then a lime or lemon, and pack it really well. if your losing it on a normal cast could be not enough water, or not enough binder, but be carefull with binders, too much and it will never break and you will end up with a concrete ball. what i would do (this is what i do personally) if you have to fish that far out is, put your rig out there then put method balls around your rig. that way your not wasting time when you throw off your method.

I practice on an empty football field and can go end zone to end zone. The trick is to not be scared your gonna break your rod

Yea I had to get over that fear and It made a nice difference, but then I started snapping 20lb mono leaders.Sent 2 korda method feeders flying our last outing by snapping 20lb big game.I'm trying 20lb pline cxx extra strong now. It is maybe a little thicker and test out about 3lbs stronger.

Thanks Bman,I will try a combination of the very small method balls and supplement the area with extra method with my wacker blaster. My son and I have had back to back to back to back blankfest at emma and the weeds are bad.I might try decker with him one day this week if there is any room out there. If no room maybe we can witness a fish being caught.

Try using a shock leader for long cast. I havent been using one lately and still pulling off some monster cast. I'll be glad to show anyone what I know about casting one at one of the events coming up.

I'm using the 20lb line as a shock leader for my power pro braid line. What pound shock leader are you using?

It's not a whip Rick , lol. You're putting too much wrist into it instead of letting the rod load up and do the work for you

I use a similar way of measuring, but I put the bank sticks at each end of my 12' rods, 4 yrds each lenght, because I don't like having to go so many times around the sticks! grin

The long distance casters use 12 to 15lb mainline (mono) with 50 lb shock leader- 5 1/2 oz sinker-on tricked out bait casters Some cast over 900 ft-
With the right gear on my best day I might have seen 450- lol- went back to fishin-

Those guys with the baitcasters pendulum cast they don't do the old aim with your chin overhead carp cast. You can do a pendulum cast with carp rods but it's not as successful cause the reel isn't at the very end of the butt and you can't stick your right hand really far up the rod. I only add about 20yards doing a pendulum. Of course I sacrifice huge amounts of accuracy.
As a rule though, the thinner your mainline the longer it will cast. If you put enough heavy line to get about 4-5 wraps around your spool you can muscle it all you want. I fond it's better to use a small 3' section of 30# fluoro from your lead to your mainline. It gives just enough snap and still let's you fully load up your rod
