My wife and I have taken several cruises out of Galveston down to Belize. I of course insist that each time we go, we charter a boat for 6-8 hours of fishing. The last time we were there, we got a 45 foot cabin cruiser type boat for 800$ for 6 hours. We split that between 4 people and had a blast. My wife caught her first ever Kingfish and my God it was huge. When the boat-hand lifted the fish up, equal to his head, the tail of the fish just missed the deck by a few inches. the mouth on it was so big, I could stick BOTH my big paws in its mouth. It was a great day.

Usually, I would advise you do your homework long before you get going....if your on a cruise and its a last minute decision, ask the tour people for help, thats what they are there for.

If you go....send me some pics. And have a lot of fun!!

ps....if you hire a boat before you leave, they will usually pick you up and drop you off right there at the cruise ship.

Check guides/boats out of Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker, don't wander far or much around Belize City proper unescorted - not too safe. Otherwise there is great fishing in the "Jewel". Native Belizeans are good, warm people, but Belize City has some of the same problems as Detroit, Watts, Harlem, etc.
