Respooling - What line do you use?

Worth it to go fluorocarbon for mainline?

I use braid as my mainline. Has low memory and lasts a long time. You will get a lot of folks that use mono and a lot that use braid. Whatever works for you. That being said, I personally would not use Fluoro as it is so danged expensive and tends to have more line memory, especially when it gets cold.

Sufix 832 40lb on one set of spools and powerpro super 8 50lb on the other set. I'm starting to lean toward the 832, it casts a lot better.

If your going for the monsters I wouldn't recommend any line under 20lb test, braid or otherwise. I use sufix siege on my bass rod and i love it, its on an abu6500 reel but it doesnt hold enough line. To prevent being spooled i have to keep the drag loose, if it gets any tighter the fish will snap the line with ease on a power run. This isnt a problem when boat fishin because you have the ability to follow the fish. If you have a couple hundred yards of line on your reel, drag isnt a problem cuz the fish will tire out before it spools you. with high lb test braid you dont have to worry about rocks and power runs aqnd its easier to turn a fish.

Penn 8lb test on 2 reels & 40lb power pro on the other 2 and big game 20lb on 3 others. I love the Penn line thinner then other lines but as strong as 25lb+ line hard to find and caught my personal best on it

I spool up with the spool in a bucket of water after soaking it for a few hours. It keeps it from knotting at all, I seriously haven't had a single windknot since I spooled up. I had some problems with the powerpro at first but once it's worn in it's perfect.

You specifically do this method for braided line, correct?

I do it with mono too, it helps it go on limp without twisting, i just don't soak mono as long as I do braid(unless it's old mono) and once it goes on I stick some conditioner on it(like the KVD's line and lure stuff the bass guys use) after it dries. I can notice a big difference in the casting and the line also lasts longer.

Sufix 832 for a sinking braid in 50 lb.

Mono would be Korda SUBline in 15 Brown.

Sufix is much smoother "easier on the rings" than power pro and it does sink "slowly!"

No perfect braid available yet, but the sufix is the best by far!
