Fun with the 2 weight

I posted this on another site but figured I'd share here too. I bought a 2 weight fly rod a little over a month ago and it has become my new addiction. The rod is a TFO Signature Series 6' 2 weight and the reel is a Greys G1 click and pawl. I went with WF3F Orvis Wonderline since I thought most of my work would be in close so I figured uplining would be the best bet. It is good out to about 35 feet or so, maybe a bit farther, then it runs out of juice. I bought this rod to target panfish in urban and suburban ponds in the Houston area and beyond. I usually fish for 30 minutes to an hour on my way home from the office once a week in the afternoons. Are the 2 sunfish below the same? They look like they have the same markings to me, but different colors. Sorry, I am a freshwater noob. Flies shown below are: BH Briminator - http://ultralightflyfishing.yuku.com/topic/3338/BH-BriminatorCap Spider - http://ultralightflyfishing.yuku.com/topic/5415/My-versions-of-Michael-Verduin-s-Cap-SpiderHere are a few pictures from my last 2 trips:

All of your Sunfish pictures are nice little Bluegills. Small rods are addictive. Seriously looking at building a 0 weight fly rod!
Nice pictures and looks like great fun!

I've been tossing around the idea of getting an UL for a while now. I'm thinking I'm going to pull the trigger the next time I head up to Dallas. Great pictures and congrats on the nice fish!

Thanks for the post, I can't remember the last time I caught a bluegill. I love the briminator, never thought to tie it w/ a big beadhead like that.

Beadhead is an unusual variant it doesnt ride hook up. The original recipe calls for bead chain so the fly will ride up. It works better near structure

Love my TFO Proffessional 8' 2 weight. No need to overline and casts 40 plus feet easily. Blue gill love testing my rod.

JT what weight or make rod are you thinking? Les I was thinking about a 2weight TFO. I can't decide between the Finesse or the Signature series.

The older version three piece eight foot pro series are closing out for 30 percent off at most retail locations, and the older version six footer is closing out as well, so you can find a deal. The finesse at 7'3", the best rod of these three, is my favorite, but the six footer suits the small water application the best.

The Pro Series are 4 piece rods. If you can find a Series I in the weight you want I recommend buying it. Cabelas had them for $99 last week. The Allen store had several in stock.
I currently am "test driving" the Pro Series II 3wt. It is a great rod. How is it different than the series I? Per Rick Pope himself "it is cosmetically better looking". It appears to be lighter that the Series I which could have something to do with the guides but TFO does not acknowledge any other changes beyond cosmetic.

Thanks for the post, I can't remember the last time I caught a bluegill. I love the briminator, never thought to tie it w/ a big beadhead like that. I fished with a briminator today in size 14 with a smaller gold beadhead and caught 25-30 bluegill on it in about 2 hours. It held up nicely. The last fish I caught with it really inhaled it and I couldn't get it out so I let him take it back to the depths with him. Heck of a day fishing with the 2 weight. My 1st double digit fish day with the fly rod.
