Haven't been able to get to the lake in months so I haven't posted in a while.

The South Texas Natives await a certain Great North Scouting Party to show them how it's done. Our medicine men say they walk on water.

We, the sophisticated, educated and leaders of the modern day striped bass fishing industry are looking forward to visiting this small pond in which TPWD refers to as "Canyon Lake". With our expensive boats, pressed khakis, collard polo shirts and cigars, we will show the wild, untamed, uncivilized natives of the south how to catch fish in the reservoir they inhabit. It will be our charitable gift to you. No thank you necessary.

canyon sucks this time of year

haven't been out there. deer season...

You lift up our spirits and fill us with hope. When last we heard from Dances-with-Stripers, he said "Bury my heart at Jacob's Creek--I will fish no more. Not 'til it warms up some, anyhow." He also said something about already having received a confidential communication from one of the Great North Anglers.

I see that there are spies from the great North that are apond us. Only talk to me through private smoke signals as the others will offer you only lies and fals hopes. Holzer is your friend. I can bring you great gifts from the North as a trade for your knowledge. Like corn nuts!

I can deal with that. Just as long as it doesn't blow.

Actually, we prefer firewater, 100% blue agave tequila anejo being the most persuasive.

I think I could catch a couple of fish, but it's a bit too cold for me. I've gotten softer in my Senior years (and so has my fishing buddy wife).

Id much rather fish Canyon this time of year then in the summer. Fish Cranks early morning near brush and you can have your limit pretty fast. Always get a solid 3 to 4 lber going that route. In summertime, my fishing there always turns to drinking and ending up in party cove..LOL

Chief Holzer is scouting for the Great Striped Bass, blazing the path for a great tribal meat haul and celebration set for February 28.

Chief Holzer is traitor to red man. Only speak to Chief Brandon he no yankee indian he practically neighbor.

Beware of this person who calls him self "Chief Brandon". At the TSA Buchanon Tournament, I recall seeing his name written on the bathroom wall. Next to the rough riders and glow in the darks.


Getting back on track:
Holzer is like the striped bass. I like all yummmy fish. I don't mind if you have crappie, perch, or shad reports. I'll take them all.

Beware of Chief Holzer he and war tribe drive round lake Buchanan for hours try to find ramp. Not to bright, could not find bathroom if want to. He lie.

Beware the shaman claiming to see visions revealing that the indigenous peoples have contrived to conceal the fact that Canyon is actually a striper "hotspot," a "sleeper lake," if you will.

Now that's not fair. Nor is it "entirly" true. We found many ramps. Just not any that were in the water. We did find Coopers BBQ that was 20 miles down the road. Does that count?

Most of us have been busy with family events going on. It's been crazy since Thanksgiving. Once the holidays are over, though, we might pop our heads out again like Meerkats!

How do I become a Canyon boy? I just moved up a few months ago.

Can you drink a quart of beer while fishing for free, ( That's
fishing with no bait) in thirty minutes and find you way back
to the boat ramp that you started from ?

As earnest of our esteem for the mighty Great North Anglers, we suggest a backup plan: fishing for trout below the dam. You may have to shove some kids out of the way, but they're used to it.

I ventured down there last week. NEVER AGAIN! That place is a gathering spot for the completely clueless. LOL.

But their "fashion statement" garb is so awesome, man.

Man I'm laughing so hard I can't even type. Oh I can't type any way. I can't wait till Feb 28, Hey duff we can take the Sea Ray and some turn on the heat and watch the show. well I'm gona do that for sure. and you watch someone will holler at me for being to close or trolling or somthing. I'll just smill and wave. and if you think that's somthing try it mid summer amid all the jet flees and wake borders. that smile and wave gets a little tougher.

Ha! Nothing new to us TSA'ers. Every lake we travel to, we either "stole" the local guides spot, on some local's favorite fishing hole, fishing in "jet ski alley", etc. Don't mind me, troll on by. We're used to it...

Bet we could do a brisk trade in hot tamales off that Sea Ray. Seems like it got down to 16 deg. end of February last year.

Drove down to Canyon to get a little familiar with the lake. Found a few small ones like these. Hopefully we'll be able to find some in size come Feb.

With Holzer it is always deep and always flowing.

Shhhh! He doesn't know me that well yet. And he doesn't know that those fish are from last weeks catch on Texoma. Quite!

Word to the wise: unless we get some serious precip, running upriver will be problematic this year. I had to pick my way through some 4-5 ft. water to get up to where the channel from the Rebecca Creek ramp comes in two or three weeks ago. Looked like the water was maybe ankle deep up there, towards the ramp. Coming out of Demijohn Bend, the GPS map showed the main channel running over what is now dry land. Lots of bait up there, and I even netted a few 2-2.5 inch shad, but found no fish. Didn't stay long, because it started to rain. Surface temp was 66-67. Lots of tree tops where the GPS showed the channel within sight of the Cranes Mill fishing pier.

All the rain we have had in the past few weeks is all
soaking in to the ground. I don't think the lake has come
up over 6" all in all.Still about 10' Low !!!

That crafty look in the eyes was all I needed. But, seriously, I'm sure these boys will let us know in advance the date of their pre-fishing expedition.

We are headed down this week to celebrate Jesus birthday with the rest of the family. Still on the fence if I want to pull the boat down or not. I want to do some joy riding just to get a feel of the place. Well, that and I heard some rumor that there is an old indian chief that sales tamales on the water.
