I called the park out there by Horace Caldwell Pier and found out they do not have a burn ban in effect so thats where I am heading. I am hoping to do better this time around. I will be coming back on Tuesday and will post a report then.
If you are going to Port A, 4x4 is not needed. I have driven the beach 1000 times and never had to put it in 4x4. Only place you may have a problem is the South Side Jetties close to Padre Island.
I hope you are not camping in a tent. Last and only time I tried that I had to tie my tent to my truck and the steel tentpoles still snapped in half. Its calling for 15-25 mph winds this weekend.

I was planning on sleeping in the vehicle and my friend was going to sleep in the tent...interesting I didn't think about the tent with the winds. I guess we will see what the tent is made of?
Forecast calls for 50's and 60's right now. I'll let ya'll know how it works out. Worst case scenario get a cheap motel.
cheap motel - Port Aransas, now thats an oxymoron.

It's looking better and better. Sunday is the coolest day with highs in the 50's, 70's for Monday and Tuesday with SE winds 11mph. I expect winds to be higher than that. TPWD has red tide info from 12/5. Anyone else have info on red tide aerosals and such down in Port A?

Yesterday I went as far north as beach access 2 and there were some light aerosols and a few large dead mullet. I would imagine the more SE winds we get the further north the red tide will come. Good luck.
Im leaving tomorrow afternoon...glad I'm not down there today. Coastal flood advisory with the surf hitting the dunes. That should make for some nice driving conditions though.
I got back last night after spending Sunday and Monday at Maggee park in Port A. First night was quite windy and a little cold but with the right attire and a nice fire it was not an issue. Winds too high to put up tent so put air matt down on beach. Woke up to light rain which quickly ended. Fished surf with gulp and live shrimp with no luck. No mullet or any sign of fish was detected in the surf both days. Did catch some trout (undersized) and some nice sheepshead in the lighthouse area. Observed one man catching sheepshead on jetties. No fish visible under lights at HC pier though some small whiting was caught there. All in all a real nice trip. I did get a speeding ticket in Taft. Stopped on way home at Guadlahara in Aransas Pass--Great Mexican Food.
