At 7p.m. on Friday night my Son Michael Jesse said: “Daddy, I want to go catch a monster.” I said: “son, it suppose to rain, be windy and probably will be a really bad day to go catch a monster. He said, “I don’t care, I want to go.” So, after a good tip on some decent kids rain/cold gear from Tom we made a quick trip to Academy and got some bibs and a jacket.
Got up at 4:45am….he popped up like a spring, we did our traditional Whataburger #10 and we were on the road headed east. He talked my ear off the entire way.
Got on the water at 7:25am and found fish right off the bat. I told him I was not going to catch fish on this trip…that he had to reel in every fish. That ended not happening because on 3 different occasions we had on doubles and I had to reel in 3 fish. Other than that, MJ reeled in 43 fish. Previous to this trip, his largest was a Lake Worth 8.10 lber (I promised him I would start taking him on monster blue cat trips when he turned 6) His bday was a few weeks ago and he has started well.
He upgraded from a 8.10, to a 15, then 30 minutes later upgraded to an acrobatic 26lber who surfaced and cleared the water on a magnificent jump (which he is still talking about). Then 2 hours later, he landed by himself a 41 lber. We had a fine day on the water. He finally fell asleep in the bean bag on the water about 2p.m. and I made a run for the ramp and got the boat out of the water b4 he woke up…If I wouldn’t have, I’m afraid he would have NEVER left!
Good times!
15lber.....1st PB of the day!
Then, a drag screaming, acrobatic 26lber that i've got amazing video footage of:
Intermission he got an 18:
Then, updgrated to a 41'ber:
He is ready to go back!

when we walked in the door, he made me log on to TP&W site and look up lake record for youth on Twok. 57lbs.
He said he wants a 58'ber for Christmas.

It's been killing me the last two years not taking him with me and him begging to go. But, I wanted him to appreciate it more and him be able to totally reel them in himself, etc.
Glad I waited even though it's hard. Dropped him off at school this morning and his words to me were: "you better not go fishing without me today!" Greatness!

Absolutely awesome. What a great day for both of you. I am 41 and I still remember the first muskie I caught w/ Dad and I was 6. Something neither of you will ever forget. Congrats to both of you and many more great days like that to come.

I am so proud of that lil guy! He is such a trooper for fishing in that wind and rain... just to catch a "monster". I don't know who loves fishing more... daddy or MJ
