Hey forum new member here. I have a question that will probably sound stupid but oh well. I have been fishing in Sargent, Texas for a while now. Until I get my boat I'll be stuck on my dock that goes out about 20 feet into the ICW. Typically fish at night by the deepglow lights we have off the dock. Always can catch white trout and some reds there. I want to start attracting bigger reds and a better variety to my spot. Is chumming from a dock even possible or effective? And what should I use. I've read menhaden oil on a drip or just throwing out cut bait works. Any ideas?

Just throw $20 at Bass Pro Shop and buy some of this and see what happens.

I did a search on this a couple of years ago, whether other people on a public pier would have a problem with chum being put in the water. The answer was that if the others didn't mind it, it was probably OK. Since this is your pier, then why not give it a shot? I can't tell you whether it will work or not, but why not give it a shot.

Thanks. Taking a buddy of mine down for the weekend before he goes to basic training. Just wanna put him on as much fish as possible. Figure I'll hit up Bass Pro and give it a try. Thanks for your input. smile

Chumming is an effective way to attract both bait and gamefish to your dock...IMO I wouldnt waste your time though bc you will just end up attracting a bunch of sailcat..unless that is what you are going for...

Having your dock light on all night on a consistent basis is the best way to chum them in...they (the fish) will become acustomed to feeding on that dock at night bc the lights attract bait.

Hope this helps.
