I'll do my best to post up some more info/weather predictions & any changes around the middle of next week.

We can meet on the water. Feel free to launch/pull out whenever you want. Some of the best Big Blue fishing has been mid-lake to dam area.

I'm planning on fishing all day & launching close to the dam (south side). Will start around 9am off water around 5pm. Fish as little or as much as you want. Come float with us if your not into Whiskers. The more the merrier

Would be great if someone would volunteer to shoot & post some video.

Suggest U Bring:
Shad (live or fresh frozen)
If not shad Perch then Minnows, Chicken Liver, Dough or Stink/Punch bait
2 way radio (I will send PM w/ channel or post it)
Camera Channel #3
Anchor
Your Heavy Tackle (Set drag so you don't break off & don't try to horse em in)
Sonar - If no sonar or Anchor plan on hanging close or drifting the area


Typically, once the fish are located, the more stink put in the water, the better chance we all have.

I haven't been to Tawakoni before. Is there much opportunity to throw a cast net for shad there?

Tawakoni won't disappoint you and there are clear areas for throwing your cast net.

That weekend works for me. Hey we need to get District Paddle (Dean) in on this. In addition to being a great fisherman, he has some mad skills with a camera too.

Sounds like a tournament there on the tenth. There might be a lot of boat traffic then Ren.

How deeps the water out there, I might have to rig up a different anchor, how about a drift sock?

Kind of answered that question. I've never seen so many hump, that place looks nuts.

Check the wind before you go, and make sure you bring your drift anchors.

Launch in a spot with the wind in your face so you don't have that far to paddle and y'all be careful. Tawok is no joke. Two years ago a co-worker died out there.

i've been getting some nice ones ever since I got this new 7' net. not the shadzilla on the first page but 6 to 8 inchers for sure.

Just curious, MR, is the idea to keep the "Arlington" shad alive overnight or just to have fresh dead shad on Saturday monring?

fresh dead frozen from anywhere will be nice.

Freshly caught thrown into a zip lock bag then into ice.......not water itll make them mushy.

Mr- how deep are you catching them, any close to the bank?

Not frozen either, although it'll still work.....its better if you just stick them in ice, they bleed alot better and are still fresh, not thawed

They're not far from the bank but the banks where they are not far from are not accessible but by boat.

So y'all think frozen shad will be better than perch? We've been having hell finding shad we can catch. And I can't make it out to Arlington.

Hell, we can't even get even perch up here any more. Either their hard to catch or guys are buying them faster than shops can get new. I'm going to try this week and see if I can catch some shad, them suckers have gone deep.

TPWD says fee required. No website for Holiday that I can find.
Last time we launched from an area by Holiday that had no fee.
That was D3 and it says "no fee".

I'm really looking forward to this. It will be the first time for me to do this type of fishing so I'll be totally lost. But I'm looking forward to hanging out with my kayak brothers.

If any of you are having trouble finding shad there are a couple of other options that do actually work at least some times:

You can go to Fiesta and buy a whole buffalo. Beat the s**t out of it to get the blood into the meat and scale it and make cut bait.

You can marinate chicken breasts in a blood attractant or garlic powder.

You can go to a local park pond and catch perch. Give it a few wackes with the tenderizer mallet, scale, fillet, use the fillets and the head as bait.

All of these will work but shad is the best. I will try to get out to the lake thursday or friday evening and catch some to send with Zombo for y'all but I make ya no promises. This christmas season has me busier than a two d**ked puppy in a fire hydrant factory with all these ice carvings.

That's what I tried to convince my wife of too...BUT she reminded me that our son's 2nd birthday doesn't come around every year. Also she reminded me of how I lost ALL pics (except for 2 blurry snap shots) & videos of his 1st birthday party cause I used my 1st iPhone 3 to take all the pics/videos then later upgraded to the iPhone 4 without backing up any of the pics/videos. I blamed the apple guy for not asking me 1st before he did the transfer of data from old iPhone to new iPhone. So she pretty much got me by the cajones on this. If I get all the all preparations for the party done by Friday night, I might be able to join in for a half day trip.

Half a day trip would be great Ren. Now get busy preparing so that you can make it...

Ok, I'll be doing a Academy trip tonight. What size/type hooks do I need. Also what weight egg sinkers do I need?
I won't have any shad. Is there a place to get it where we will be putting in?

I'd suggest 8/0 gama circles with either a 2-3oz weight....I'm going to use a 3-way rig to help with the drag \/drift of the yak, others might be using the carolina. I am going to go on a bait run later today, If I'm able to get any you wont need to buy any!

btw dont think academys carries the 8/0 gamas, I get mine from BPS

The one in Wichita has 8/0 mustard live bait hooks, that's what I use. I normally use just a 1oz weight but I might be stepping t up this time.

I'm hoping yall kill'em. The weather couldn't be better. I came out of Gander Mountain last night and heard a terrible sound in my front end .
I'm thinking it's a ball joint. I was able to limp her back to town last night. Grunting and groaning all the way. I've got $30 of catfish supplies I'm not going to be able to use today.

What a beautiful day, was wishing I could have went all day.

Im waiting on the pictures to be sent to me, but in the meantime let me say that the 2-way walkie talkies from academy really came in hand t today.....14.99 special Get you some and i believe they can be used with others as long as they are on the same channel.

Last minute changes & my son decided he wanted to join us so we ended up taking the power boat. Thought it would be handy to scout the areas ahead etc. Etc. Chess101 & NaconaBrian are two cool dudes in my book. My son says chess reminds him of Keith Stone. We sonared several areas before we decided to wet our hooks. Chess kept us posted on his n brian's hot spot via 2 way. Can't wait to see his pics. No heavies landed from the power boat but my son did manage a personal best cat.
