In the past 6 months I have been through (3) HDS 10's, (3) HDS 5's & (1) Structure Scan box.
Then my partners HDS-5 dies in the boat last week at Falcon while loading way points. Luckily I bought a spare HDS-5 in the boat with me and we swapped it out 15 miles deep in Mexico.
I'd take Lowrance over Humminbird any day of the week on Sonar, GPS, and probably SI but the reliability factor of Lowrance is a joke at best.
Any word on when Humminbird is releasing a new generation of graphs?

What happened to them? I have a HD 10 and 7 with no issues yet but now I am worried.

Let's see
HDS10 #1 - SD Card holder latch magnet broke and can not be fixed without replacing entire unit.
HDS10 #2 - Most recently last week at Falcon. First time using the replacement unit. The Lowrance name on the back of the unit is apparenelty removable with wind or hitting waves too hard. Some how this opened up (I did not take any waves) and when it opened during the course of the day water entered the unit while running down the lake which fried it.
HDS10 #3 - Awaiting replacement shipment. They are now out of stock.
HDS5 #1 - Non "waterproof" unit died during rain.
HDS5 #2 - Died while loading waypoints. Unit kept rebooting, Lowrance confirmed it was broken.
HDS5 #3 (Partners) - Same as above #2.
Structure Scan Box - Mounted in Rod Locker. Moisture somehow got into this "waterproof" unit and fried it.
I seriously recommend keeping spare units with you when fishing far away... Also look into the extended Warranty which is $300 I believe for 2 years. I could not imagine coughing up $3k out of my pocket for a replacement HDS10.

Wow. Bad luck there. As long as they have honored their warranty it does not (IMO) warrant a public bashing. They are great units and considering the torture we put them through they are amazingly reliable.

My bashing was done last week at Falcon around 6am when we had 2 graphs die back to back days on 2 seperate boats. I do have a problem though with coughing up $50 bucks each time and waiting at least a month for a replacement.

Do you trailer with your graphs mounted on the boat?

You are not alone having HDS failures and then even more failures on the warranty replacements. Recently installed my 4th unit.
Product reliability, product QA and product QC can be related but are different issues with different solutions that Lowrance hasn't yet solved.
Keep us posted on your findings.
