Anybody want to post up what you need to do to get a water body record - catch and release of course?

Nick, it is actually pretty easy. You just take some pictures with the measuring tape under it with the tail pinched. Also, you should get the girth measurements as well.

That, pictures, and a witness is all you need with the form.

The form is on TPWD. When you look at the water body records, you should see on top a link that says "Submit your record"

Just follow instructions.

I forgot to mention that for weight, you will need a certfied scale to weigh it on.

You do not need it for the catch and release only record.

I had the scale, so I submitted for both.

Well done Ted. Getting these certificates and recognition is a nice bonus added to a fun day at the lake. It's great to see how many TFF members are getting these records.

Congratulations Ted my goal for 2011 was to get a wbr but no certified scale made my first ever failed goal maybe next year lol

Keep at it Cristian, just be sure to take a measuring device so you can do the C & R record. Pics are the key...and a witness.

After reading this thread I looked up a few of my local lakes and noticed they all have the weight records but most of them only have 1 for catch and release recirds.

Does anybody have a clue why this is? Is catch and release a lesser record people do not go for? Or is the catch and release limited to certain fish? If there is this many slots open for catch and release I know I can get a few of those with next years fishing season with all the nice big length fish I have caught this year alone.

I may be wrong on this, but I think that the catch and release records may be a fairly new category. I personally would rather see someone get a catch and release record. That assures that the fish is released to fight again, as opposed to the other records that could include catch and kill.

Ah ok that might make sense, I am all for catch and release minus a few sandies and crappie for dinner now and then. If this is fairly new I might have to double check on the rules and go after some next year, I managed to land a few really nice fish this season that would make for a good catch and release record. Thanks for the info Curt, I am going to try and do some research to get ready for the next time I head out on the water.

Yes, Curt is correct. The catch and release records are fairly new and not many people have submitted for them yet.

The rules are simple. Take a picture of the fish with the measuring device under the fish with the tail pinched for maximum length, then take a girth measurement and pic.

Include the name of your witness on the application and email it to anglers@tpwd.state.tx.us

You can have the weight record and catch and release record if you weigh it on the bank with a certfied scale and picture the fish being released.

It really is pretty easy.

How much do those certified scales costs ?

It costs $25 to certify your scale at Bastrop Scales, but you need to make sure that you have a scale that is good enough to certify.

Do you have any suggestions ? I need to start making list of all possible stuffs i need so i can grab them all one by one.

Almost any Ruben Heaton are quality scales, but I am no expert. I am sure one of the guys on here can tell you the best scale for the money.
