So I just got a kayak and being new to this I was looking for some feedback regarding what you wear in the winter. A buddy suggested waders, but my concern is that if I roll that these will be difficult to get out of. Should this be a concern? Appreciate yall's advice.

Wear the pfd year round in the kayak, too many morons in boats that do not respect your space. You also have to have a whistle and a light if you are out before or after sunrise/sunset, if you don't go with a buddy let someone know your plans just in case.

Wear layers of course and don't use cotton as a base layer it will not insulate once wet. This time of year I have a good splash jacket, waterproof paddling gloves and breathable waders on. There will be arguments for and against the breathable waders versus neoprene, I like the breathable so I can wear normal clothes under them instead of shorts to keep from being too hot.

Cool video Zombie!!

As others have said, always use a good PDF. Especially in the winter.

Here another one. Expensive but looks like the best suit ive ever seen that you can still move around in.

I wear breathable waders and they are great. Stay away from neoprene waders, IMHO.

Zombie...Great video. Always wondered about water getting past the wader belt. Now I know.

This information answers alot of questions for me as a newcomer to the sport. I was wondering whether or not to get neprene waders. This also showed me as long as I have the right PFD on, I won't easily drown. Now I don't have to wait until the spring to try out my new Ocean Kayak.

I'm about to spend some time looking for some warm gear, not sure what the temp was today on the water but it was coooold. Least it wasn't too windy. I want to find some warm pants I can use for more than fishing, and some boots too.

I ended up getting Frogg Toggs. Kept me warm and dry. Those and knee high waders along with a life jacket of course. Got them for about 60 bucks at bass pro.
