Decided to head over to Palestine today, and give it a try. I have never been there, and have read so many good things about it on here.
Got to the ramp at the Villages at about 0900, and was able to launch with no issues....getting out the slip is a little bit trickier!!! keep close to the bank (10') on the right side heading out. or you will be high and dry.
I had tied a few jigs yesterday, and wanted to give them a shot.... They sure worked!!! I caught my first limit of Texas Crappie ever... with many extra to throw back...

And the final result is a nice meal for the Family...

It was a good day...fished from 0900 til about 1... and came early enough to beat the kids home.

Although Pepop's comments about Palestine being closed seems funny, but in actuality, that lake desperately needs water very very soon or the ONLY barely launchable ramp will evaporate from foot to inches...

Texasrig, here is an exchange from the last couple days from the Palestine Posse concerning launches...

They are still launching with double axle trailers at the dam. But you need a four wheel drive to get your boat out. I have pulled three truck/boats out of the small ramp at the dam in the last month.

Curley I've got a 1 ton 4x4 but I heard there is a deep drop off on the double ramp not too concerned about pulling out as Iam about damage to the trailer / axel. Thanks Pepop but the boat is heavy 21' skeeter Iguess I could use the trolling motor to get thru Imay give it a shot next week weather permitting.

Yes Crown, the double ramp has been out of service for awhile now. You can only use the small single ramp at the dam. It has some wash out from boats being motored up on the trailers, but you can still launch there. I have no trouble with my single trailer. My buddy's double axle tounge scrapes the ground as he launches, and he has trouble getting his boat out because he has 2wd. I have not tried Villages yet. Heard some people are still putting in at Lake Palestine Resort. I hear the ramp looks worse than it is. But real shallow.

It's true! That's what the guy at the marina told me yesterday, If the inlet becomes impassable, there's no point in the launch (or marina for that matter) to stay open. crying

Thanks Pepop for the info, I've been deer hunting and seeing all these crappie reports makes me want to get after them. Maybe this rain will help the lake out some.
