So would it not be safe to use it on say 30# mono then spool up a reel? or do you think it'll weaken the strength of the line. This obviously wouldnt benefit those on a boat, but for the bankers it would/should soften the line to get more casting distance right?
Just a thought

I'm not sure what the chemical effect would be on the line itself, but it would seem by softening it, it removes some of the elasticity. Just like when you get a good pair of blue jeans. They get soft and broken in, but they're a lot easier to tear than a new pair of jeans would be.

makes sense... So do you think it shortens a castnets longevity?
just curious

I would think it would probably weaken it a little bit. But, since cast nets aren't usually under the same stress as a single strand of monofilament line, it wouldn't be as big an issue unless you hung it on a stump or a rock.

I have tried it and it makes the line spongy and when it wears off the line has twice the memory. Not a good idea!!!

ok to do on a new cast net to give more elasticity.
solid no-no on your fishing line. it breaks down and weakens the line.

I saw a tip on youtube to soak your spool of mono in bucket of HOT water for 10-15 minutes before spooling.......I started doing this and it really helps....less line memory and tighter more uniform wraps when spooling up a reel........
I do it when spooling braid also.....gets good tight wraps on spool....

Thanks lakeless, guess it has more severity since you used the infamous "no-no" =) only need to be told in that tone ONCE! lol
Dcm, thinkI might try it, just trying to find a way to loosen up my 30€ offshore angler line! Its great, just doesn't cast as far as my rods with ande ..... I know Ande is better but i like the hi vis, and want to stay with the 30#mainline

it helps for spooling up a reel but I don't think theres much u can do to help for casting 'cept change line.....Ande has hi viz....... Y I went to braid (no hi viz braid tho) - I use spinning reels tho - braid casts better and has zero line memory......

No memory,I like the way it casts, and you get good hooksets because it has no stretch.I like power pro,I know it costs alot more than mono, but it lasts ten times longer.

Dont get me wrong never had the offshore angler fail me, its just alil stiffer than the ande and causes a slight difference in casting distance. I have all my rods spooled with offshore now, so im not bashing the line, just looking for something alittle smoother.

I found that the 25lb off shore angler has way better memory and casting ability. I tried the 30 and didn't like it.

I've never used the Offshore angler but I've had great success with the Cabela's Saltstriker line in 30#. It's just as good as the suffix that I have on half my reels. Casts really good too. If you want a big spool of hi vis braid I got mine at Fishermans Factory Outlet. FFO.COM Been thinking about trying some of this..... LINE.

Chess, as far as monos go, Big game is a great old proven standby for a lot of fishermen. Sure it has some memory and doesn't cast with the finesse of some other higher priced lines, but it is stouter than the devil and you can depend on it not to fail you. The clearance price at Academy on the stuff is killer. I bought 3 rolls even though I use Powerpro on most of my reels these days.
Another good mono is P-line CXX. VERY-VERY strong stuff, good price.

Really, as mono goes, for the money, BPS Offshore Angler line is pretty good stuff. I've had it on a couple of my reels for quite a while. It's strong, doesn't fade, and has zero memory. It's quite a bit cheaper than Ande and other stuff.

Well I've been using braided for a year now and my choice was Power Pro. Also I only have one rod with braided and that is the rod I can get out the furthest with no memory line. I hate to put all my eggs in one basket but all my reels will have it as soon as I get the cash.

BPS OS is plenty strong, its just a bit too stiff.....maybe i'll just try the 25# instead of the 30 that i have now......
I know, first hand experience, that the ande is STRONG and cast really SMOOTH...only thing is bps and academys doesnt stock them in hi vis yellow...and i've never really ordered online(yet).
Only reason I'd change BPS OS is if I can find something smoother and just as strong, if not stronger. Might be ordering the hi vis ande (still deciding) lol

I am curious about the real magic-- How does it help, or what does it help?

Real magic softens fishing line, makes it more limp and castable, reduces line memory. Works on braid and monofilament. Also has UV inhibitors in it. It is an amazing product. I use it on my fishing line, wipe my reels down with it also. Best use though is cleaning electronics wipe your fish finder down with it every month or so and it will stay looking like new forever. Clean the screen with it and it will stay crystal clear and water will bead right up. Talked about it some in this podcast. Give it a listen! http://www.learntocatchcatfish.com/catfishing-radio-episode-18
