How many of y'all have insurance on your kayaks?
Since I had to get insurance on my trail I also added two of my kayaks and kayak related gear in case of theft, accidents, etc when traveling. All in all $58 a year for everything. Just a little piece of mind considering all the highway miles I travel.

I'm no insurance agent, but isn't there some kind of coverage included in your homeowner's policy? Maybe we have someone who is "insurance savvy" on the forum who will enlighten us.

One day in early November, my wife tried to burn trash while I was away at work. It was a windy day, and the fire got out of control, burning a few hundred square feet of our yard. In addition to grass and brush, my solo canoe went up in flames. Nothing remained but some metal strips and a charred spot on the ground, shaped like a canoe.
No problem, I thought. My homeowner's insurance will cover it.
Nope. Damn that $1,000 deductible.
Oh, well. My new Tarpon 120 arrived yesterday. Now I can be a first-time kayaker.

My understanding from my agent is that it is covered as personal property, but with the deductible as mentioned. The exception is when you add TX numbers to it. Then it is considered a vehicle like a power boat. The fishing gear, cameras etc. is personal property no matter what it is in.
I itemized everything when I bought liability as a guide and my total policy was just a few hundred a year with a small deductible. Most of that was liability and medical for clients.

My fishing gear (rods, reels, etc) are covered under my renter's policy even when they are not there. This is added coverage for kayaks and kayaking gear (seat, paddles, etc) while I'm away from home and on the water(it's essentially a boat owner's policy).
I now have liability coverage(property & medical) while on the water and deductibles of $50 for each kayak and kayaking gear. I don't know, just some added piece of mind.

I have 250k in property coverage on the house that I know covers it on the premise but I need to see if it is covered on the road. Thanks for the heads up Josh!
