Are there any redfish running in the surf in the Galveston area? I'll be in Galveston starting tonight and I'd love to go after big redfish. At what beach should I target them?

I love fishing open beaches so I wouldn't even mind a beach where I could target whiting, croaker, or trout. Got any ideas? Feel free to PM me if that is what you prefer.

Garfish....thanks for the info. What is the name of the state park that you are referring to?

Is the beach to the west or east of San Luis pass better? It sounds like the pass itself is pretty dangerous. However, I do have a dry-top that cinche sonto my waders pretty good and a life jacket, but I'd still prefer not drifting out into the open ocean:)

Fish after lunch. You'll have incoming tides from then till dark.

You don't have to get in no more than Knee Deep water. Cast a Carolina rig w/ dead shrimp and or squid in the breakers. Use small hooks if you want to up your chances w/ the small mouths on those whiting and croakers. If you catch some small ones, use it on your Bull Red Rod.You may have to wade a little deeper for that kind of fishing. Galveston Island State Park closes at a certain time, so check it out if you go there. Either side of SLP is good. More open drivable beach across SLP to Surfside. Good Luck!
