Wish us luck. We are headed down to high island for 6 days of fishing. Most of our efforts are going towards bull reds. But I want to do a little flounder fishing. What are some rigs to catch them on.

You didn't say if you would be btb or fishing from the sand and yakking out bait. Best bait is large chunks of cut mullet you should be able to cast net mullet around rollover pass you can use 2 or 3 finger muller on a big circle hook if you can't get larger mullet btw mullet over 12" may not be kept from Oct. thru January. When fishing btb we use a few feet of 200 lb mono leader
with no weight then just grab the leader and pull the red in the yak. Best way to catch flounder is 3" finger mullet carolina rigged or gulp swimming mullet white or chartruese on a jig head. Good luck

I'll do it this time. I have a bunch of footage of the last few trips, just been busy
Lately and hate video editing. I think I'm going to compose one large video from this summer. And on the fishing note, I know pretty much all the ins and outs for btb fishing for reds. Just need to know how to fish for flounder. As far rigging.

I use a snafu rig with 12" leaders and hang a pyramid weight about 5 inches from where the barrel swievel for my leaders is. Make sure your hooks are super sharp and use a rod with ALOT of back bone. You gotta set the hook like you mean it. They are boneheads.

3/0 circle hooks and a 1 oz weight.

I will also use football head jigs tipped with a minnow. Just kinda walk the jig across the bottom.

Mud minnows for the flounder, also gulp... and let them really eat it before you set the hook. But hit them hard when you do swing on them. Flounder drive me batsh!t the way they'll just nibble at the tail for a while. This rig helps--called a cheater jig. H&H. They'll have them at the academy, maybe walmart fishing section. Best of luck!

It was an awesome two day trip for me, unforgettable! Hard fighting bull reds and a big ol ugly ray makes for a heck of a trip!

Ryan with one of the lil reds he caught from shore.
