Would you consider 3/8" rope to small of diameter for a 20lb box anchor?

I would think it would depend on what kind of rope it is.

3/8 cotton rope is a little rough on the hands. Bigger is more comfortable and easier to grip in cold weather. IMO

Thanks guys. I just found some 1/2" 100' for $8, nylon. Gloves are going to be mandatory in the cold for me anyways.

Salsa that rope has to be the cost of like 4 anchors. But 3/4" would be easier to get a grip on.

kinda pricy but I'll get about 10 years out of it. Think I gave $200 for 500ft on ebay.

Not bad for 500' What do you store it on so it does not get all tangled up?

I would think it might be hard to tie a good knot in rope that thick.

It came on a 500' roll. I cut it in half and burned both ends. Then, I keep the 250ft piece laid in a milk crate in the boat. It never tangles up...when I retrieve an anchor, I lay it in the milk crate as I pull in the anchor so that the rope is in order. That is for the back of the boat. The front of the boat has anchor storage and I do the same thing in the storage bin.

walmart has a spool of 3/8" twist nylon 150ft for $32. Not bad for a boat up to 18ft or so. thumb

1/2" is a good all-around size.

Milk crate, great idea. Drains water and keeps things in order. Only problem is I am quickly using up space on my 18.5 boat.

I bought 2 100'pieces of 3/8" braid for $14. I wish it would have been 1 piece but I can tie them together. Not bad for now. Just have to get the anchors made.

Thanks again.
