I like staying there but I get in trouble everytime I go, they run it like it's the army. Also watch the gators if you're fishing from bank. And make sure you have your wheels on the hard surface!!! L.O.L.

With the low water levels, how are the boat launches @ Choke Canyon?

ramps at choke are all good. they were built right extending out into the lake. the piers float up and down with the water level. also, the burn ban is in effect so you can not have wood fires. you may use butane though. The cabins have 2 "beds" if you want to call them that. better to take air mattress.there is plenty of room and they have air and heat. choke canyon also has primitive camping sites where you can set up a tent. bank fishing can be pretty good for both LMB and catfish. watch for gators but I have personally never see any around the park area except around the little 90 acre lake.

I will not stay at the park again. Facilities were ok but I do not need to be treated like a kid. The above response about the Army is about right. Have fun it is a good lake to fish.

It isn't exactly camping, but there are cabins for rent just outside of the park, Choke Canyon Cabins. They have showers in the cabins, 4 bunk beds per cabin, and covered boat parking. 325.347.2015 is their phone number. If you are dead set on camping, the park is the only place to go. But as mentioned above, look out for little Hitler, the park ranger. He's no fun.

if your camping the state park is the way to go. the staff could be much friendlier, but being on the water is worth it.
the wildlife is great. usually see deer, turkey, javalina, and gators ( at the pond).
plus you don't have to wait for the gate to open to launch your boat. that parking lot has gotten much smaller over the last 10 years!

I agree with the various comments about how strict they run the park. Pay close attention to the speed limit of 20mph. There is no wiggle room as far as I can tell. It does keep the wildlife safe though. I have seen deer, turkeys and even a Bobcat within a short distance from the cabins so it appears the strict speed limits do work well for the wildlife. I like camping there and will do it again.

I love that park, but the comments on the staff are correct. I was doing 22 and was pulled over and warned that at 23 they ticket. They also bragged that they write more tickets than any other state parks.
But for me, the wildlife in the park is worth putting up with the staff.
