For a reel im loking for somthing that i can use on Bull Reds i have Calcutta 400B and last weekend i tore up the Reds but, i pretty much cranked them into the boat like i was bass fishing or somthing! I want a reel that can handle a 40" Bull but also makes the slots fun to fight to! Nothing more than $250 for the reel.
Rod part what ever you guys think would go best with it! Keep in mind i would like to be able to cast a little bit too.

I use my 2500 stradics loaded with 30 lb braid to catch everything from 12 inch trout to 40 inch reds. Mounted on a 6ft 6 crucial, it is a dream to cast and fish. I have 3 combos that's going on 5 years.

My favorite inshore reel for trout and slot reds is my recently acquired Calcutta te 101 gt. No bulls on this setup yet though.

If you like challenges that are fun....try an Abu 4600C3 or 5500.....pair that with a BassPro IM-6 graphite rod....get the entire rig for right at 100$. For big reds, over slot....Id go with the 5500C3 and the 7'6" MH rod with a 30lb braid and 5 foot of good FC leader. I just had a great day of fun with reds in the 30" inch range, tore them all a new one with a 4600C3 on a 6'6" Uglystick Pro model....and I was only using 17 pound test.

A lot of folks tell me they need "more line" than what a 4600 or 5500 will give.....And I ask why? "Do you cast farther than 100 yards?" A bull red will make short, powerful runs, but long screaming runs arent the norm. They arent Kings. Most of the time, the canals I fish in arent much more than 100-200 feet wide, if that. And I have NEVER caught any trout or flounder that could spool even a 4600. So, after all that rambling....try an Abu, built like tanks, affordable, easy to care for, and strong for the size.

PS// Have you ever heard someone talk [censored] about their Abu?

Me either.
