My son in law just got the word because of a faulty design on the radiator in his Pathfinder he now has to replace the tranmission and the radiator. Did some research and apparently there are alot of complaints and a class action lawsuit pertaining to this problem. Repair estimate is $7000 for new transmission and radiator. He's has a little over 83,000 miles on it so it was totally unexpected. I've had good luck with Nissans but if this isn't resolved there will be no Nissans in my future. Anyone heard of this or had this problem?

$7K sounds very very high. Some googling shows people are paying about $3500-5000 for the radiator/transmission replacement.

There are some people that have had luck with replacing the radiator & flushing the trans a few times.

So what is the problem? Transmission issues?

The radiator fluid leaked into the transmission causing potential damage to the transmission. Service advisor said it was a faulty design of the radiator by Nissan.

The trans cooler is inside the radiator. It has failed & caused fluid contamination. The problem lies with how long this has been happening. Clutch pack discs could be damaged. Also, the TCM is inside the trans case as part of the valve body. If it gets shorted, it gets stupid expensive to fix. The dealership is recommending a trans assembly to cover their butt.

I believe you are right daveblank. The code was P1774 and I read a little about this low coast brake solinoid switch and it's supposed to shut the tranny down. or place it in "safe mode" so hopefully "safe mode" means there is a chance the tranny is ok. We'll see how it goes for sure.
