I changed my tying approach a bit, and have been palmering chartreuse saddle hackles over pink chenille Wooly Bugger style, and tying in some rubber legs along the way. I seem to be doing a bit better with this pattern. When the jig gets wet, the hackle lays back down over the gig creating a plumb, tapered profile. The rubber legs still stick out as before. I want to believe that the rubbers legs feel to the fish like their little fins, and this encourages a strike. I tie rubber legs like a tail, and then right behind the lead collar, as the pectoral pair. Any body buy the idea of simulating fins with rubber legs? I'm still trying to talk myself into believing it.

Interesting concept but I believe fish eat it because it looks like a bug. Besides, if it goes in their mouth, it's caught before it has a chance to figure out if it feels a tail or fin hopefully. I will say that a blue gill fly with legs is by far more productive than ones without. Just dont know how much of a bug eater crappie might be. To answer your question.... no I dont buy it.
