I only recently started fishing the elm fork and I really like it but I'm just not catching very much.
I started at California Crossing in the spring. Fishing the spillway there I hooked up with a couple of white bass and a very nice hybrid. The next couple time I went there though in the summer I got skunked. Should I just plan on just fishing there in the spring or is it decent all year round and I just got unlucky?
The next location I tried was up by sandy lake. I put in a kayak this time and paddled up to I35 but I only got a couple small whites and a small hybrid.
I might have gotten obsessed and spent about 5-6 hours this week looking up all of the threads on the elm fork on this site. After my research I decided to go check out the dam behind the dr pepper building. I took Harry Hines over to what looked like the all weather road Rudy descibbed in many posts but it had a gate up and signs posted saying no motor vehicles and no parking. Did I take the wrong route there?
I think I got a ton of good tips from my searching during the week and I would especially like to thank Rudy for all of his reports and wonderful information!
That road got closed and locked by the "powers that be" and rt now that spillway is VERY LOW, nearly dry and won't be any good again until we get some heavy rains and some good flow.
Try the area behind the Haggar bldg, off Luna/635, try Campion Trails along Riverside in Las Colinas.
Did you find my SSSL in the Fork? Great place, the river. At times it can be frustrating. Actually, most of the time it is..... Unless you find that honey hole....
Well I tried the spot out behind the Haggar building today. Caught 2 LMB keepers and a buffalo. I think I will be back to this place soon, but with my kayak next time.
Will probably try out sandy lake with my kayak on Wednesday. Last time I went towards lewisville, this time I think I'll try going towards grapevine.
